and I owe it all to one very smart app on my smart phone for giving me the motivation to do it!!
Literally...one month ago I was heavy breathing after walking my dog around the block or walking from my parking spot to my work place which is approximately 0.6 km. I'm 43 years old and I knew that I needed to work on that... a lot!!!
Doing a 10 K has been on my list of "things to do" for quite some time. I tried training for it a year ago but was battling Achilles Tendonitis. A personal trainer had told me to run bare foot on the treadmill instead of using running shoes. Well, it worked BUT in the process I suffered from a complete stress fracture of my Fibula (ankle). I walked around on that fracture for a month before my doctor decided to Xray due to the constant swelling and pain that was not going away. My physiotherapist refused to treat me until one was done...thank you awesome physiotherapist cause at least someone had the sense to have a better look at the problem. Sure enough it was fractured!
The road to recovery was not as easy as I thought it would be...I'm not a spring chicken anymore, that's for sure. The walk from my car to work was a slow painful 12 minute walk which normally would take me 6 minutes to do. Little by little, I saw that time increase from 12 minutes to 10 minutes to 8 minutes and back to 6 minutes...but it took me a whole 4 months to get to that point!
A month ago I was hoofing it to work still in 6 minutes but was completely winded by the time I got there. I knew that I needed to make that change. I had a whole year under my belt for recovery on my ankle...it was time to do it again...this time I was training in shoes though!
Well...it's been a month of training...I'm much further than I got last year. In fact, I'm running a 5 km on my treadmill right now!!!! No, not as we speak...but today I did it!!! and the other day too!!! That is according to my new FitBit which I have had for two days and love to absolute FitBits!!! This little gadget is just so incredibly handy!! Today I did 18362 steps, 15 floors of stairs and 9.13 miles (wish it were measured in Kms)
Yay Me!!! only 5 more Kms to go to reach my goal
