Oh doctor, where art thou?

Thursday, February 07, 2013

Have not heard from my doctor since the day before labs were drawn.
Have called daily with no return call.
I am getting really ------.

Have had a headache for a for two weeks now and it has gotten worse.
This may be a symptom of possible Hyponatremia and the reason I went to the doc in the first place..
Have tried nasal spray, antihistamines , Motrin 800's, stretching and nothing has worked.

Finally made the decision to go to the emergency room last night.
The ER doc said it was a combination of a migraine and tension headache.
Gave me Fiorocet and something for the nausea. Didn't help.

Went to a walk in clinic and was diagnosed with a sinus headache and was sent on my way.
Also blood pressure readings are quite high. I don't usually have pressure above normal.

To make a long story short, I still have a headache and don't know what to do.

One thing I do know...
Am changing primary doctors.
Tadah tadah, life goes on.

Unfortunately, the support staff is who let you down. Shame. I hope you find a compassionate doctor who takes notice personally. They are out there, I promise.

I have not found anything to help with migraine except stillness and dark. Prayers that you feel better soon.

I hope you can get a response from your doctor's office TODAY! Even if they have to send the blood they drew to be worked by an off-site lab (and that is quite common), two weeks should have been more than adequate time I would think.

I can't speak for what it's like in other offices, but I have to respond to every single call that comes in on the same day it's received. Now I might get somebody's voice mail and have to leave a message, and sometimes people's voice mail boxes are full and I can't even do that. But the point is that I make the attempt. Even if my answer is, "We haven't heard back you, but I will call you as soon as we do," patients deserve an answer. Hold these people accountable. This is the kind of behavior that gives the rest of us a bad name.

I do hope everything turns out well for you!

I think I'd go to the office and wait rather than trying to get a return call. This is why I always have blood drawn before my doc appointment.

Jenae, I'm so sorry. I'm so glad you went on the mission of finding an answer for yourself. And glad to hear that you are going to seek out a new primary care physician. I had to do the same last year when I received sub-standard care. Keep fighting for yourself. YOU are the only voice you have.
You are in my prayers, sweet friend. emoticon emoticon

There ya go... take control of your health,
interview the doctors thoroughly for those things that
matter the most to you.
Make a contract with that doctor that you can hold them
accountable to. It took me about a year and a half to find
my current doctor that I have had for 20 years, but she is
great and the understanding we have between each other
is that she will always follow up and if she doesn't know
she will find someone who will.

I do hope you feel better very soon.
I hate that you've been hanging on with no news! Grrr.

Wow, agree that you will need to change doctors.

Have you considered some natural remedies? If it is a migraine, high blood pressure headache, or tension headache; deep breathing for 5-10 minutes should help. Taking a short walk may help as well. Try to reduce stress as much as possible. emoticon

The support has been reassuring and comforting.
I will take the rest of the evening to digest all of this and then plan to take action.
Thanks to all of you Sparkers that enhance my life on a daily basis.

I agree with you - you Dr should have called back. Especially for a headache. I think you should go to your Drs office without an appointment and find out what is going on.
It may be allergies but could also be your ears or throat or a dental issue.

It could also be a hypertension headache. I would at least watch my salt intake and drink plenty of fluids. Use a humidifier, just in case.

Well .... I have worked in the medical field since my 20's .......... (now later) and I have to say THIS IS TERRIBLE that no one has returned your calls!! There is NO EXCUSE whatsoever!! And Yu have called repeatedly ............ FIRST thing in the morning IF I WERE THE PATIENT ............... Make ONE MORE CALL AND LET THEM HAVE IT ..................... no nonsense and tell the one answering, "LOOK .......... DO YOU PEOPLE CARE OR NOT??" ....................... I have called blah blah times ............ and I WANT TO SPEAK THE THE OFFICE MANAGER NOW!!!" .................. (I have done this before w/ a very rude Doctor who made some wisecracks............ called and reported to the off. manager!) ............... THEN find another Dr. and ask what their policy is re: return phone calls? ............. Put them on the spot ......... all of them! ...................... BAD CARE!! ............. emoticon (Is there a Dr. in the house?' ................ NOT LOL either!! emoticon

Oh boy, the medical system is definitely a scary place to be nowadays. Doctors who don't call back? Are you serious? What is the world coming to? You should DEF switch your primary physician and report this one.
