Sense of Smell

Thursday, February 07, 2013

I'm a little behind on my blogs - I was affraid this would happen with "Tax Season" being here. Being busy at this time of the year can be a good thing or a bad thing - busy working means more tax cliens, more money but less time for exercise. My plans are to try & put it on my schedule when making appointments with clients.

So now I'm going to talk about the sense of smell!

The sense of smell: This can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what is going on around you. Sometimes in one of my jobs (childcare) & it can be a blessing that I canít smell something (like a diaper that needs changing). As I set in the doctors office the other day, there was a woman holding a young child & we got to talking. The child was only 14 months old & wanted down so she let him walk around the room, then she leaned over to the chair next to me to check on him & I wasnít sure if I was going to make it. I actually had to get up to go get a magazine to move away from the smell. I did bring it back to my chair so I wouldn't look rude. Her body odor was so bad that it was hard for me to be next to her & that got me thinking about the doctors & how do they do it? In an exam no matter what kind of doctor it is, they have to get up close to you, so I feel very sorry for them. I tried hard to not judge this person because I donít know what is going on in their lives but it made me think about how I wanted to make sure I take care of myself.

It got me thinking, do we smell the food we are eating, the things around us or for that matter our own body oder? Sometimes I think we get so busy that we forget to "Stop & smell the things around us or maybe it's jsut as simple as that we just donít care?

So now I'm sure if you are reading this, you have stopped to see what you can smell around you - does it smell good or not so good?

Can't smell a thing at the moment due to very stuffed head. I noticed how I missed much as I was baking and cooking today.

The worst body odor is when the hormones are acting up and you can not even get dried from your shower you can smell your on body odor and it is not good. When I was a teenager, my sister had just had a baby and she became the sole family support. She moved back home until she could get situated. One day she was doing some paper work and I went by her and I told her she smelled and she needed to go bathe. She broke into tears and told me she had just bathed 15 minutes before. I felt so bad that I had upset her, due to my lack of knowledge. Many years later, I also experienced the same thing and you do not want to even leave the house, much less to be around people. Sometimes it is beyond your control, does not have anything to do with what you are eating.

In my life I find men smell things, it seems to be part of their processing system. Hubby is an electrician and he smells the components as part of his fault finding, son loves wood and timber and he smells it. It is interesting I think.

I love the smell of:-
laundered clothes -fresh and clean
chicken soup -soothing
lavendar-calming
ho
t chili- spicy
babies- (that one has been a while :)

I don't love the smell of:-

sweat
burnt food
geraniums
chai tea

But we use smell in so many ways:-

"the sweet smell of success", that really "soured" me ,etc

Great blog got me thinking... emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon Working with Elderly and Nursing Home Clients it is amazing to me how often I don't notice a smell, or if I do notice I can take care of the problem without it bothering me. Changing Dirty Adult Diapers Never messed with my appetite like it did for many of my Co-Workers. Maybe it is a Gift to those of us who work in the Medical Field?
