My office has joined the, “Walk Across Arizona” Challenge. Basically, companies can join teams and for 8 weeks we track our individual steps. The team with the most steps “wins”. (Don’t get excited, we only win bragging rights).
So in prep for this we’re already wearing our pedometers, and a friendly rivalry has already broken out. At lunch today I decided to take a nice long walk, over 2 miles, to get used to walking at lunch. When I got back to my desk my legs were tingling, with the flow of a good, long walk.
And then I realized I still needed to mail an office letter, which need to be taken to a USPS drop box. So, another walk; yeah, I guess.
Of course, I got completely lost and was wandering the streets aimlessly, like a rubber-necked crazy person; peeking down alleys and spinning in circles, until I finally found a tiny blue box (I really hope that was a USPS dropbox, it was blue and on a street corner….ah, I’m sure it’ll be fine).
Anyway, when I finally stumbled back to my desk I did the math; ignoring the steps I took getting to work or meandering around the office on my daily duties, just factoring those two, back to back, walks, I took over 11,400 steps. I can, officially, be carried around the rest of the day and still be well over 1,000 steps ahead of my goal (and if my legs have any say in the matter, being carried around is exactly what will happen.)
