Background/Week 1 - 2

Hey all! My name is Steph and I began my weight loss journey about 2 weeks ago. Before I begin to talk about that though, let me first give a little bit of background about myself. I am currently 22 years old and was an athlete for most of that time. Basketball, softball, volleyball, swimming, you name it and I have probably at least tried the sport. I used to be a smaller sized kid when I was younger, but when I hit puberty I grew to an astonishing height of 6'1" and my athletic career really took off, leading me to play Division 1 softball. At this time, the most I had weighed was about 225 pounds. By the end of my first year playing, I had gained 20 pounds of muscle. But over the summer, due to failing grades, I made the decision to quit the team and focus on my studies. However, I didn't quit eating like a Division 1 athlete, which lead me to gaining a whopping 40 pounds my sophomore year of school, putting me at 285 on the scale. Talk about a Freshman 15! The next year, a few of my really close friends and I started going to the gym regularly for a semester and I lost some weight, going down to about 255. It wasn't a lifestyle change though, and I ended up gaining it back plus 10 more pounds. I last stepped on a scale back in November, 2012 and found out that I weighed 294 pounds - 6 pounds away from 300. Finally, two weeks ago (January 18), I finally said enough is enough.
My mother has been on and off of Weight Watchers for years, but has recently committed strongly to the program due to the doctor telling her she would need to be placed on high blood pressure medication if she didn't lose weight immediately. She has also committed to working out 5 days a week. So far, she has lost about 10-15 pounds and wants to lose 30 more. I decided to join her. I have vowed to myself that I will never step on that scale and feel horrible about myself and my weight again.
Two weeks ago I weighed 285 pounds (I lost 9 pounds due to being a poor college student - not healthy, but I'm going to run with it!). I didn't weigh myself last weekend due to it being my mother's birthday and the fact that we ate really badly; I just went right back to my journey.
Currently I am on Weight Watchers and doing the beginner exercise regimen from superskinnyme.com. I plan on weighing myself every Sunday and posting every week to journal my weight loss because after doing extensive research, I found that journaling has been shown to help people stay committed and focused. I also plan on posting pictures of my journey, as that has been shown to help as well. My mother and I have also found an online recipe blog called skinnytaste.com that has some excellent recipes and includes the weight watchers points for the recipes! Delicious!
My goal weight is 180 pounds and I plan on giving myself non food related treats for every 10 pounds that I lose. For the first 10 pounds, my mother and I are planning on heading out to see a movie, just the two of us! She's waiting on me since she has already lost the first 10. Hope she doesn't have to wait too much longer!
