Rant - Some People Are Just Slobs!

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

First..Happy Hump Day!!! emoticon

Now on to my rant for today. We've lost a lot of people at work in the last 6 months, for whatever reasons. Most have done it the right way. They gave notice, took their personal stuff home, cleaned up the cube. But one person didn't. This person went on vacation then emailed that he was quitting. This happened at Christmas time last yr. Well....now we're getting new people in and we need that cube he was in. And since I'm in a loll right now with my project, I was asked if I would clear out thus person's cube. I said yes...I mean the pays the same no matter what I do, right? HA! I knew this person was somewhat of a pack rat...but have you seen the TV show Hoarders? This cube should have gotten it's OWN hour show! Not only was this person a pack rat but he was just plain a slob to boot! There was spilled something all over the desk top, it had dried and was acting as some kind of super glue, gluing his PC monitor to the desk, food stains on the carpet, stuff (I don't know what!) stuck to the filing cabinets. I must have bagged up enough wire to circle the globe a few times (OK..maybe not that much...but it seemed like it! emoticon ) All in all it took me over 6 hrs to clean up a 5 x 8 cube. But I got it done! And now we just hope the janitorial staff will vacuum the cube. OH and BTW...all the dust in that cube has given a little headache! OK..that's my rant for today! emoticon

Things are better are home, we talked about the money thing last night. I am going to help pay for the race fees this weekend. Hubby will be putting that money and the money for the new pond pump back in the safe...over time. Which is OK with me right now. It was a comprise that I can live with. I'll have to drive out to the track on Fri night after work as I can't take the day off to go out there. But there's no racing Fri night...we'll just be setting things up in the pits. emoticon

Eating is good so far today. I don't know about tonight. We have to run to some friends house when I get home from work. Last night was right on spot for my calorie intake. I did my work out and have started going for a walk with the guys at work for my last break. It's less then a mile but fun and it does count. emoticon

So I guess that's about it for now. Have a great rest of Hump Day!

Oh can I relate! When we were doing our railcar business, we had done a trip and left one of the railcars clean and well stocked in the kitchen after receiving it from the company as a total disaster. I had spent hours cleaning the flattop grill and the floors along with everything else before we could use it. After our trip and before our next trip, the company was using that car for some short runs with a chef and many waitstaff on board. Well, we came back for our trip with an SUV full of groceries having done some of our shopping on the way. ( a 3-4 hour drive for us) Went to put stuff in the kitchen and was faced with a similar scene to what you described. I reached into one of the fridge units to feel the bottom to see if it was cold and my hand came up covered with oil. A closer look showed that there was a 1/2 inch of oil in the bottom of the unit. They must have had aluminum pans of off site prepared food in oil or a marinade of some sort...spilled it and then left it. There were open containers of granola on a shelf...a nice invitation to insects and rodents, a gallon can of olive oil open and without a cap on an upper shelf in a traincar that has been bumped around the yard for a week and every fridge and freezer just as dirty as the first that I looked into. The microwave had a pan of some kind of food in it that of course was growing green and black fur....the floor was also swimming in both grease and water since they didn't empty the dishwasher before the car was shut down and all that water sloshed out to combine with the oil and foodstuff on the floor. Oh and that flat top that I had worked so hard to clean? It was disgusting and the grease trap was full of more disgusting germ laden filth.

I still had a lot of grocery shopping to do for our trip of ten days of feeding 30 people 3 meals a day and before I could deal with what we had already bought I had all this cleaning to do. My husband tried calling the guy who was in charge of the trip before ours but he wouldn't answer so we called our manager and really let him have it...he apparently got the other guy to call us back and the reply was "they were so tired after the trip, I let them go home" WHAT? I left the kitchen clean and ready for them and now I have to do their work too? Glory I was mad!

It sounds like you did better than I did containing your ire. Great job!

That sounded disgusting! I am not the cleanest person, but when it comes to food/drink stuff, oh no, that is not negotiable. I guess I've lived too many places where leaving crumbs on a counter is an invitation for bugs to invde, so I am way paranoid of that. Props to you for steamrolling through that mess! As gross as it was, I bet you had a wonderful feeling of accomplishment after you got through it.

Yes, there are People who are just plain Slobs in this world. The Company should have made him come back and clean it up himself before acceptng his I Quit Notice ideally. Sorry You had to clean up the mess He left behind. Not a very good thing to do on his part. Glad to Hear things are going better at home too. You are doing Good. God Bless you and Everyone. Have a Lovely Day. Take Care. Hugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is disgusting, if he would come back & see how neat you cleaned it he would freak out, & say there was nothing wrong with it in the first place!!!!The bosses should have checked his cubical while he was there & demanded he clean up or leave .
Take care hope all the other's are more neater

Reminds of teh kitchen break room clean-up I did last week. The supposed neat freaks hadn't clenaed teh fridge in 3 years. Or teh microwave in 4. There was stuff alive in the interior of teh microwave. NASTY!!!
