All about me!

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

This blog was inspired by Trace Adkins 's "Songs about me". So this blog is all about me, its kind bit more information than I provided on my main spark page.

I am a cook, what can I say? I love food, the colours, textures and flavours. Its fun to me to combine them, and come up with new twists on some classic dishes. I try and support my local farmers to the best of my ability, there is farmers market once a week in small community centre, to towns over which is not far by car. I also like playing with some international foods, when I get them, don't get me wrong Sobey's and Superstore carry a good selection, but there is no sweet potato pasta on their selves.

I grew up Newfoundland, but since then the family has relocated to Nova Scotia, which is where we still are. I like here, its nice, but it is not the rock! But the people here are much the same. I don't know if I will end up settling here, I think I might even though I would rather go home again, but I have a good job here, and most of my Newfie friends, all joined me here after we all finished university.

Yeah, I did university 5 years of it, and couldn't find work so I studied my second and more secret passion of cooking. I did a 2 year program here in Nova Scotia, and I did my placement a small hotel, which is a seasonal business like many places here, then I joined the team again last summer. At the end of the season, I started passing out resumes and I found a small family owned restaurant which is open year round and I love it there! So I plan on staying put. Right now staying put means living with my parents for the moment, until I can get more hours, and either find a suitable house, or cheap apartment (which can be a challenge in a university/college town).

I am down home coastal country girl, I'll admit I am not one for hunting, but I love to fish, and don't mind drowning a few worms. When I look in the backyard I see trees, a lot of them and a campfire pit, where my family, and few other families can be found around, if not here, we may be at their campfire pit. I can walk to the lake, walk in the woods, or even go out and climb a couple trees. There are wild berries to pick in the summer. Mom and Dad have even expanded the backyard garden and are now growing some of their own veggies. I love to hike and swim, fresh or salt water it does not matter to me. I am willing to back woods camping although most people I know are not, but that's ok.

I am a scrapbooker, and find it to be very relaxing, and a great way to have an different photo album. I use more then just paper in scrapbooks, I use fabric from my mothers sewing projects paints, and once I get better I will be adding small pencil drawings that I like to do.

I love country music, it just touches me in someway that some others genres don't, but I do have a small collection of R&B, pop, hip hop and rap, and even easy listening music. I think its fair to say my taste all over the map when it comes to my music.

Since most of my blog so far have been inspired by him its only fair to him, that I state a little bit about us. My boyfriend and I have been dating now for almost 7 months. He is great, an earlier riser( which I am not, unless I have to be, I'd rather sleep through the dawn). He keeps two horses with his brothers. He lives about an hour and half away now since I moved for this job, but we do a great job keeping in touch, by phone! We try and talk every night.

I am trying to learn how to play guitar, in fact I can play a grand total of 2 songs! "Smoke on the water" and "Horse with no name" I know the opening cords for " Teardrops on my guitar" and that's it. I am self teaching now, since I moved, I am going to try and some cheap lessons here, and learn some of the theory before the busy season starts again. I am also working on the harmonica as well, and I am trying to learn the theme song from Mash 4077, which is one of my favorite shows!

Well that's all about me!
Have a good one!!
