Off the Beaten Path: An Off-Trail and Rock-Scrambling Weekend

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

Oops, already Wednesday - it's been a busy week.

Last weekend I did two rather unconventional hikes. We hiked off trail both days.

Saturday's hike was on an old trail, abandoned in the 50s, which we discovered a couple of weeks ago.
Quite rugged...

... and a little bit overgrown :)

Sunday's hike took us to a beautiful waterfall - no trail. We just followed the stream.

Mini waterfalls all along the way.

Lots of rock scrambling.

We all came away a little bit battered looking :) My many bruises have started to heal... It was worth every step, every slip, and every scary moment.

This coming weekend we'll stay on the trails...

I am SOOOO missing my hiking! We should be back home about Feb 15 and then we'll jump back in with a vengeance.

On the plus side of being in Massachusetts, we were able to go to an REI store today and bought top of the line trekking poles! Mine are only 5 ounces EACH! This is a super bonus because the nearest REI to our home is 450 miles away.

Your hikes look FABULOUS. Glad your bruises are healing! I'm not a big fan of "bushwacking", but you certainly saw some beautiful country.
