List ALL your trigger foods: Salt and Vinegar chips, cookies, definitely chocolate in any form, chipotle honey almonds as of late. Tim Hortons Mocha
What are the sources of the Triggers Foods? Hubby likes the salty- for instance he popped open a bag of ranch chippers one night before dinner- we were both ravenous. I had a couple handfuls when I really didnt want to.
I tend to keep dark chocolate in the house
I baked a double batch of allergen free chocolate chip cookies- they lasted two days with six people gobbling them down, myself included.
After a mega grocery shop I really like a coffee treat. I had switched to mint tea with honey.
Describe the most common situations where you reach for the trigger foods or snacks:
Usually with Hubby and the salties, we will be sitting on the couch enjoying a movie or show.
The dark chocolate is an evening habit, after the kids are in bed and house is tidy. Its occasional, not daily, when I am craving sweets badly. Reward and comfort?
The baking is on the counter in the kitchen. My daughter really loves cookies- I find it hard to resist them if I am giving the kids one.
The grocery shopping in the city is always a six hour ordeal with kids:) I feel exhausted and frazzled afterwards, especially if I had parts running to do for hubby mixed in. The Timmy's is a reward- needs tweaking.
The chipotle almonds- salty, sweet, healthy fats, very addictive. They are handy in my bedroom dammit! Its one bag, has lasted since Christmas(stocking stuffer)but it calls my name.
Do you see a pattern? What types of foods are you reaching for? Does convenient access make a difference? How can you better handle the situations to avoid the triggers and not binge or eat more than you should:
Tracking holds me accountable, as does sticking to my clean eating meal plan. Eating this way will help stave off munchies by eating regularly and filling me up on the good stuff.
I like to reward myself, and nibble to destress at the end of the day, for comfort too.
I can swap out the unhealthy munchies by having cut up veggies and fruit handy, and healthier snacks like air popped popcorn, I need to fall out of the habit of munching while watching something entertaining.
As for the Timmys, I will go back to my mint tea with honey. I can buy myself some berries in the grocery store too. Still seems like a treat.
The almonds are gone from the bedroom- no more!
