Suspicious Weight - I trust ye not, scales!

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

I've noticed that recently it's been very hard to get what I would consider an accurate weight. The change in eating habits and food types means certain regular bodily functions have changed their timing. Now I never know if I'm carrying "extra" baggage internally :).
I've found that averaging the weight over a 3 day weight period is better than just picking 1 weigh in day and tossing the dice.
I've also noticed that I have to watch my water intake a lot more. Now that I am more active I can become a little dehydrated if I'm not paying attention. Even after all this time, drinking water is not a habit, but something I have to force myself to maintain.
With that being said I think I might be a little dehydrated from yesterday as my morning weight is far lighter than I would have expected. So I'm taking it as a false reading and will ensure I drink plenty today. If I did take it as true today would be my 18kg-weight-loss-iversary. But I think I'll wait till Saturday to be sure. :)

    Cheers guys!
I only just measured myself for the first time in AGES last week. From memory it was about 13.5 inches off my entire body. I try not to pay too much attention to the scales these days but after seeing it drop about 700-900g each week it's a hard habit to break.
Now that the bulk of the fat has gone the scales are not really going to tell me much. Just from all the walking on the high incline setting on my treadmill has beefed up my legs so that will be affecting the scales too. I haven't started any strength training on my upper body, yet, due to my bad back. I have a target of 80kg I want to get to before I start but once I do I'm gonna have to rely on the mirror and the tape measure.

I know what you mean, I also watch what exercises I do. I notice when I increase the weights during my workout or add something my muscles respond differently and can throw off the scale also.. along with water intake, and other bodily functions that go haywire... I wish I had a scale like they show on TV that gives a positive thing instead of a number weight... Like Sassy, or Sophisticated.. lol I do like the 3 day average idea though... also do you measure inches?

So happy I read this! I was thinking I gained 5lbs over the weekend but now I realize my bodily functions HAVE changed. I think I'll try the three day average. I'm trying not to let the scale win but those numbers are always at the back of my mind.

You feel good, you are working on your water intake, you have resisted the only-the-scale- is right syndrome.. Great!!
Sometimes I think scales are manufactured by sadistic old crones in a dingy basement somewhere, laughing at our horror every weigh-in!
