I'm just too old to start running....

Well, I can't use that excuse any more - here's a little clip from Lisa Ling's documentary series on the OWN cable channel. Her documentary is called Our America and last night's episode was titled The Secret Lives of Seniors.

Since I know a lot of people don't get this cable channel, I definitely wanted to share this particular clip about Ida, the 97-year-old woman who just set a world record for the 100-yard dash for her age group, 95 yrs and older.

As I learned from watching the show last night, Ida did not even START running until she was 67 years old!! Her daughter is a running coach and talked Ida into taking up this activity to help with Ida's severe depression over losing her two sons in a relatively short period of time when the sons were in their 40s. The documentary said Ida was so depressed, she didn't want to continue living, let alone take up a new sport - 30 years later, Ida set the world record for the 100-yard dash. Watch this inspiring video and then ask yourself if YOU are 'too old to start running'

    Very inspiring. And so true. Being active is really helping me to manage my emotions in a more positive way! I go for runs when I feel down, frustrated or overwhelmed... and as part of my training program too! Running and yoga are truly making a difference is my overall attitude in life. It makes me feel like I accomplished something (even when my run is not that great), I feel in the moment and it brings me peace of mind.

    Love it! I see much older people running all the time when I do races. The half marathon I did had MANY people in the 70 year old and over age group :-) I remember thinking I was starting late in my late 40's, but I am a baby compared to lots of other runners. Thanks for sharing!

    You're never too old. I just started a program this morning of walking with intervals of running and plan to work back up to running more than walking. It was my first day, but it felt good. I used to run 5 miles every morning (many years ago) and I always felt great and had a lot of energy. I'd love to get that feeling back. Thanks for sharing.

    You're never too old to start running. There is a man that ran a Marathon @ 101 yrs. old. Plus there was an older man that did Ironman WI. In fact, he completed it more than once. They kept the race open just for him. Both of these men started running late in their lives. Just start out slow.
