Did I Really Do a Bench Press?

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

Yesterday, would you believe, I bench pressed 150 pounds? I did!! I did it during my third personal training session. It was the first time in my life I was ever "spotted." My trainer said if I ever do it without him to make sure the supporter grabs or supports my wrists, not lower on my arm, in order not to stress the wrists. That makes sense but I probably would not have thought of it.

I'm delighted that today I am comfortably sore, not terribly sore like I was the last week. Along with my unwavering three minute plank the day before, I can definitely say I'm getting stronger!!

Wait a minute, your third training session, you bench pressed elite levels. According to strstd.com a 130 pound female bench 150x6 has a 182 pound 1 rep max. Elite 1 rep max is 151 pounds. People work for years, dedicated to lifting and focusing on their diet to hit elite levels. Many fail, hell, 95% fail to hit elite levels. You did it on your third try benching? I don't have words. It's like saying you picked up a bat for the third time and knocked a baseball over the wall at Yankee Stadium. If this is truly the case, you should seriously consider competing.

I just computed the % of your body weight and found that 4AHealthyBMI just had the same idea. Yep, she's right 115%

Yikes woman, that's fantastic! Congratulations!

You're benching 115% of your body weight?!

Holy crap, woman. You should be doing competitive powerlifting - as a female in the master's division, you'd probably clean up!

I'd love to see a photo of you doing this! Wow!

You could put your numbers into this calculator and see how you're doing:
