Building a cold frame

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

One of the schools I am working with is going to build cold frames out of old windows, donated by my neighbor. These are the instructions we're starting with:
sfc.smallfarmcentral.com
/dynamic_content/uploadfil
es/37/Building%20a%20Cold%
20Frame.pdf

Of course, I have to make changes. Switching decking screws for the nails, slight modifications to the frame itself to accommodate the windows. Better, bigger, more powerful power tools!

I am pondering making one using straw bales in my garden, since I'll be using a few straw bales anyway this year. Something cool from "It's a small town life" blog- and we already have the windows!

Have you made a cold frame? Pros and cons? How did it work for you?

I have never made one but I think you should post pictures of your process. I would love to see how it turns out!

Interesting concept...but I'm not that addicted to gardening to try to beat the weather here.

Looks like a clever way to get more out of the garden!
