It's probably weird and breaking some sort of rule somewhere to start a blog and fitness/weight loss program in the middle of a week, but I wanted something to distract me from the broken central heating and I also figured that some exercise would warm me up (hypothesis: confirmed, but my calves aren't used to this sort of thing after so long and are phoning in complaints).
So anyway. New blog, new plan for weight loss, general fitness and improved health; all that good stuff. To reiterate the basics in my profile; I'm 33, I live in the UK and I'm a fatty-fat-fat. Really - I'm 5' 3" and at last weigh-in last week I was around 280lbs. This has led to me being recently diagnosed as a Type 2 Diabetic, which so far is being controlled with tablets, diet and a plan for weight loss.
The Diabetes diagnosis is one of my primary measures for losing the weight, as you would expect - I need to get this under control and get healthy for my own sake - but the biggest motivating factor for me right now is the aim of getting it under control so that I don't have to have daily injections or even blood tests every three months. You see, I suffer from a needle phobia, and that on its own is enough to keep me going through exercise and moments of weakness when I just want to go to the corner shop and buy a punnet of Creme Eggs - just reminding myself of regular injections and blood tests is enough to give me an extra push of determination to get through things.
So far, though, it's not been all that difficult. I'm just watching what I eat, eating more regularly and more sensibly, and cutting out as much junk food and sweets/chocolate as I can manage. Exercise is a little more difficult, as I'm severely out of shape and practice, but I'm starting off small - 10-minute sessions throughout the day, adding up to 30 minutes a day. I'm very much a 'small goals adding up to one large goal' person, which is why my first weight loss goal is to lose 7 pounds.
Of course, this means buying a weighing scales at some point in the near future...
