My sister's birthday

Wednesday, February 06, 2013

Today is my sister's birthday. I am so grateful to have a sister whom I can also call a friend. We are really pretty close - which is kind of odd because we disagree on all sorts of fundamental issues. But we just - by tacit understanding - never discuss any of those issues. And we have many other things in common - most importantly, our memories of growing up together. Also our memories of our dad, taken from us too soon, and of our other sister, taken from us far, far too soon. We are family. I am also very grateful that, in spite of our differences, we stand together and work together when we need to.

I am going to try to occasionally blog about the things I am grateful for. There are many of them. I am blessed!

This is not the greatest picture, but it is probably the best one I have of my sister. I took it at her wedding and I am not a particularly good photographer. Unlike me, she doesn't have a weight problem. She is wearing the wedding dress our mother wore for her wedding many years ago.

I have five sisters, but the one nearest my age was my bosom pal growing up (when we weren't fighting like cats). We are also politically very different, but manage to see past that.

Aww, happy birthday to your sis! Great that you guys are close! She looks beautiful in your mother's wedding dress. I remember before I got married I tried on my mom's wedding dress and it fit (other than being about an inch too short) but it just wasn't my style. Of course I saved my dress too and then proceeded to have two boys so I don't really see it ever being worn again either. Doubtful their future wives will want anything to do with it. It's always neat to see when a wedding dress is passed down from one generation to the next! Thanks for sharing.
