Backtracking and Re-Planning

Tuesday, February 05, 2013

Sparkfriends, sometimes it is very important to know when it is time to step back, admit that you weren't quite ready for the goal you set, and reset your goals.

So here's the situation. Long story, but I am under a ton of stress right now, and it is affecting my health. Some isn't even from current things, but rather residual stress from previous concerns. Anyway, I had a moment of clarity today, and I am going to have to step back and take care of myself, and save my lofty goals for later.

I am pleased in the progress of the goals I had set, in that it proved that I can go back to tracking my food quickly, I tracked enough previously that apparently it isn't too big a challenge for me. That being said, with everything else I am dealing with, it was one more thing to keep track of, and one more thing that I had to get on the computer and do, and I couldn't get on during the day to track so I had to do it every night, and I couldn't wait because if I waited until tomorrow I would probably forget what I ate, and I was worrying about being way over on my calories (even though I promised myself I wouldn't), and... and... and... (by the way, OCD/Anxiety Disorder sucks.)

So for now, I am ditching the nutrition tracking goal. I will continue to note how many fruits and veggies I ate, and how much water I drank. The fact is, I never stopped tracking those mentally, and I can remember them for several days without any fuss.

But I am switching my main focus to the exercise. I went to the gym today (yay! first time going to the gym! I used to exercise at home.) The reason for this is that I know, partly from previous experience and partly from doctor recommendation, that getting back into the regular habit of exercise will help my health a great deal.

So now, the only goal I am actively pursuing is to exercise at least five days per week, and more if possible. I will count fruits, veggies, and water, but that is definitely a secondary thing. I will also still check in on my blog here from time to time, and hey, who knows? I may even do some more general non-goal specific blogs again in the near future. Once I get my health issues under control, I will start to reinstate some of the other goals as well.

In the meantime, remember that you haven't failed until you give up!!

It sounds like you've got a solid plan... and if it isn't the one you started with, so what? You rearrange until it is what you need right now... and add the rest as you can as you go along. You've got this. You are one of the strongest women I know.

Isn't that frustrating when you type a whole long article, and it disappears. Happens to me more frequently on my new computer and I haven't figured out what I hit to cause it.
Sometimes we just have to make changes in our plans.
I am so frustrated with our internet connections here that I feel like quitting altogether. Has taken me 3 hrs. tonight to do an hour's work!!!
You have the program ingrained in your mind and I'll bet you will know when you are eating right. GOOD LUCK!!!
