An actual rest day, and a tasty new oatmeal preparation!

Yesterday, I was totally going to do some Zumba, but then....I decided not to. It's been god-knows-how-long since I had a real rest day. You know I have a hard time with rest days. I feel like I have to do substantial cardio every day or I'm not being healthy enough! Walking isn't good enough, a 45 minute jog isn't good enough (go 70+ minutes or go home!) ..it's messed up. I know. I know there is a very important place in a healthy lifestyle for rest days and walking days and so on. I just have a hard time putting that into practice. My body gets so tired, but at the same time, I like the feeling of being worn out at the end of the day. It helps me sleep better, for one thing! In the last couple weeks of doing easier exercise, I've had several nights where I had a hard time falling asleep because I felt generalized anxiety. With my old style of working out hard every day, I was always too tired at night to get my old anxiety problems.
But yesterday, I stopped myself and said, "I feel tired, I would like a rest day, I could use a rest day, and it would be good for me."
So I did some strength-training, and I did about an hour of yard work, and that was the extent of my exercise for the day. No real cardio. It felt weird, but not as weird as I was afraid it would feel. Part of me was also afraid that my weight would just shoot up the next day because I hadn't done cardio, even though I know that's silly. Obviously, this morning I was no heavier than I usually am in the mornings. I did my Zumba workout today instead, and I probably enjoyed it more because I gave myself a break yesterday, and I did a new yoga video for an hour and twenty minutes, which felt nice!
Oh, and the oatmeal thing is silly but I get excited about food very easily. :) I love savory oatmeal (veggies and cheese, frequently) as well as sweet fruity breakfast-style oatmeal, so today I cooked up some oatmeal with some no-salt-added basil & herb crushed tomatoes, some pizza/Italian seasoning, some mushrooms, and a bit of Provolone...and I had pizza oatmeal with lunch! (Or spaghetti oatmeal. Whatever you want to call it.) It was good!! I recommend it when you've got a hankering for pizza and need something fast. :)
