Double Toil and Trouble

Tuesday, February 05, 2013

Last night I got out of bed to go into my recliner when I heard banging. I went out into the hall and saw my husband in his bed banging on the wall. He was in tears in pain from a knee injury that he's been nursing and then last night when his phone rang he jumped and twisted his knee once more. He was beside himself. He worried about a doctor appointment he has today with his cardiologist and worried about losing his job. Last night the pain was so intense that he couldn't move it at all. I got him three ibuprofen and some water and then prayed for his knee. He settled back down and went to sleep but, while he can hobble around a little this morning, he is not too much better.

I am worried about his job too. He cannot have an MRI to see whether the problem is an ACL or a meniscus tear because he recently had stents placed in his cardiac arteries. He also cannot have surgery right now because of his heart problem also . So there is little that can be done for him other than what the hand of God will do. I have been in prayer since last night for our problems.

To top it off I just got a phone call from our daughter who was here for a month and just left last night to go back to her home with her boyfriend. Already she wants to come back home. She feels like she's made a terrible mistake by deciding to return "home"--she feels her home is with us. And not only that but she is suffering from a terrible backache also...So amongst the three of us, I"m the healthiest one and that is scary.

I do have one item of good news. I have a social worker who was here today and she shoveled my driveway for me. I'm so glad. My shoulders were hurting so terribly from having shoveled it twice recently. I didn't feel I could face it again God was good and put it on her heart to do that for us.

Also I got my new scale. According to it, I"ve lost three pounds in recent days because I know my old scale to have been at least 6 pounds light and this scale only reads three pounds heavier than I was on my old scale. I knew I had lost some weight but wasn't sure how much.

So that is our tale of woe. DO you ever wonder why sometimes the skies open up and rain down trouble? I've been wondering that. Why us? Why now? Why this?
God alone has the answers and he alone is the source of our help.

So very sorry to hear all your family's struggles :(( You are really getting hammered!! I do hope your daughter comes back home. It seems like you all need to be together at this time.. Some kind of splint for your husband's knee would be helpful to give it a chance to heal, regular icing and elevation is a necessity.
Sending healing, harmonious and soothing thoughts,
Take care of yourself!

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's knee injury. I tore my ACL when I was in high school. Oh, it's healed. but it's never been right since. I still have issues.

Do you have a neoprene brace of some kind ? a brace can help keep his knee stable and give him support for now. And put some ice packs on it too. That will help reduce any swelling.

I know it's not easy to stay positive, but things will get better.

Oh dear, your poor DH and DD too. I'll sure be thinking of all of you with emoticon Your DD could maybe be your answer once her back gets better. I know that you've been so worried about what to do with your health and your husband's too. They say that there's always good in every bad so I hope that you'll see the good soon! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

My Dear Friend, how I understand! My year started out with losing my uncle, my mother having another serious health issue and having to go back into a nursing facility (600 miles away), my husband not having any work for 3 straight weeks, having to have that manipulation done on my knee, and my uncle's son passing away suddenly last week. I honestly didn't know how I was going to survive one more thing!

But God knows what He is doing, and as some wonderful Sparkfriends reminded me, He is always there for us. He provides one way or another. I will pray your husband's knee feels better. If you happen to have any mineral ice (i.e. icy hot/biofreeze/polar ice) that may help. I was able to find mine at dollar tree, walmart usually has various brands with a wide range of prices. I personally haven't noticed that the pricey ones work any better than the economical ones! If he isn't having any swelling problems, wrapping it with a warm wet towel may help. If it swelling, RICE, rest, ice, compression, elevation.

I have also been keeping you in prayer for continuing strength and peace through all of these struggles. You are stronger than you think you are.
