Morning everyone

Just checking in...nothing much to talk about accept I could talk about our beautiful weather here today. The skies are so blue and it's around 70 as I head out to walk the dogs. I know I shouldn't talk about my nice weather so much as I know many of you are chilly! So for those of you who are....keep warm!

DH and I went with a friend yesterday to see one of the assisted living places here as he is most likely moving his Mother here who is paying like close to $4000 per month in the states for care. We looked a beautiful place with individual suites with a beautiful view of the lake. We met 4 ladies who were already living there that were so happy and so sweet. So you get the beautiful suite, TV, phone, internet, 3 meals per day and a caretaker, room service, room cleaned daily all for only $1600 per month. That's a big difference. The nice thing too is that the Mexican culture is geared towards the elderly as they cherish the older people here. Even children will run up to older people and help them. It's very sweet. I have a girlfriend who lives in Seattle who's business it is to place people into homes. She shares with me how much money it is to put someone in one of the nicer homes in her area....they are around $6000 per month. So sad as we do have many beautiful facilities here for so much less and better care. I told my DH yesterday that if I outlive him that his kids could just put me in one of the facilities down here. I guess we all have to face something some day. At least I know I would be happy and not a problem to anyone down here.
I do hope you all have a wonderful day.

Wow, what a difference in prices. It is sad
that the elderly have to pay such amounts.
I have told my son to put me in a home once
I get to that stage and he said never. Your
weather sounds fantastic. I hope your friend
finds a nice place for his mother.
Have a nice day. emoticon

Hopefully that it a stage I will skip. I have accepted all other stages, but that one is not on my radar. I made and paid for my final arrangements 12 years ago. If it was a must, that one in Mexico sounds better than the ones here. My kids would never comprehend that.
Like Marsha said our weather here is great also - very mild winter so far.

My mom's in assisted living in South Dakota. For 16 years she spent her summers there. This is the first year she has lived with the snow. I wish she were with me here in Florida, but would definitely prefer Mexico to where she is. She does have friends and in-laws there and she is definitely a person who will make up her own mind.

Hope it all works out for your friends. Our weather here is pretty good today, sunny and 70's; going up to 80 later this week. But enjoy your weather, too!! Appreciate all your support on my blogs. I did get the pictures straight now!! -Marsha

wow, that is remarkable. I used to work in geriatrics , and RCH homes are alot.

One of my girlfriends is disabled, and she can't find one for 3500 in our area.

It sounds like you live the good part of Mexico. My uncle would go back and forth. He ended up with a tiny trailer, after he divorced but got a home there. emoticon

Wow! What a huge difference! Sounds like a wonderful place to live! But would language be a problem though? I guess that is why so many people move to Mexico to escape the big taxes and high cost of living. Its also what makes it such a vacation hot spot too, hard to believe how cheap vacations there are.
Enjoy your gorgeous weather!

When we tried to move my MIL to a retirement village in Ohio where we live from upstate NY were she lived, she refused to move. She did not want to leave her doctors, and friends. She had n family there. At the time, here care was running around $6500 a month and in Ohio only $3,400. We would have loved to have her closer to us where we could spend her remaining years together, but at that age, they don't feel comfortable leaving their homes. I hope you have better success.

Wow- love the sound of your weather! I would enjoy taking long walks every day in that.
What a diff. in the costs of assisted living there- sound much nicer and less expensive.
We visited a few places here in RI and they were not that nice and quite $$$.

Good luck finding the right place for your friend's mom.
Gorgeous weather here too - the clouds have finally moved out. It's been a strange winter with so much cooler and cloudy weather - everyone is complaining about it :(

You are so lucky - weather wise as well as with regard for facilities for your elderly. My parents are still living at my childhood home and my father is my mother's primary care giver. He does not want to put her in a home. We all try to help out but it is difficult.
