Tracking Tales from the Dark Side

Monday, February 04, 2013

Every day, every week, every challenge I vowed I was going to track. I bought journals, logs, pretty paper, you name I bought it thinking that one of these things would get me consistently tracking. Yeah I would start the day tracking. In fact one book is almost full with dates and breakfasts but alas the rest of the day was lost.

Then I thought I'll do it on line - I tried doing it on spark, my fitness pal, livestrong but again I failed. I don't know if my head was in the wrong place but I knew that to be successful at weight loss I needed to know exactly what I was eating, I needed to record those lick, bites and tastes, and I needed it to be easy.

Two days before Christmas I came out of the dark ages and got an iPhone with a data plan. Then after Christmas I went back weight watchers. Lightbulb moment! I could download the WW app on the iPhone and try etools free for two weeks. I did and I have successfully tracked for three weeks. I have tracked every bite, taste and lick. The first day I tracked it hit me how much those licks, bites and tastes add up. By supper I was down to have 2 points left.

So what have I learned - Do what works for you and track, track, track.

Yes! This is the first time I tracked everything as I go. I have been doing it for a month and if I can keep doing it, I will probably be succesful.

Have you looked at the Sparkpeople App? It was a little clunky on my Blackberry but, on my iPhone, it's pretty awesome.

I tend to do that.....i will track the 'big bites' but kinda' push the little ones aside....thinking that they don't count....but they do! And it sure does add up quickly..... emoticon
Good for you to keep trying....and for being 'on Track' for the past 3weeks now! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Very good post. I hate to enter everything into the SP tracker, but it does work! Now I generally write everything in my hard copy diary and enter it into SP at the end of the day or the next day. If I don't write it down immediately I tend to forget items.

It takes some of longer that others to "come around" but it is the place to be. I find that even when I am over budget - it is never as bad as when I wasn't tracking at all.

Glad you came out of the dark!!

Warrior on!!

Nice! I'm like you. Always vowing to track. I have all of the same tools. If I didn't track my food than I didn't eat it. Right? Guess that's how I began to grow round instead of tall. LOL! Since starting the BL challenge I have become better at tracking but I want to become routine. So perhaps I will take some tips from you. emoticon
