"So Natural and Free" - New Poem

Monday, February 04, 2013

I wrote this poem when it was slow at work. Its not the best, but I enjoyed writing it. I am not sure what to call it so there is currently no title. Enjoy!

"So Natural and Free"

She was a vibrant budding tree
Nestled alone on the top of a hill

Surrounded by beauty
So natural and free
So full of possibilities

Each year she grew taller as the sun beamed against her
Small crisp leaves scattered along her branches

The day came where she could no longer feel the sun
Dark heavy clouds barricaded her
Bringing with them stinging rains and winds that thrashed her branches

She felt ravaged, lost without hope
She watched wearily as her leaves wilted and tumbled to the ground

She felt like crying out to the flowers for help
But she was weak and had grown used to the way things were now

Then, one day when she had nearly given in to defeat
The tree saw two bunnies running happily

They seemed so free and unaffected by the weather
The tree was puzzled by these creatures and their splendor

How was it possible to be so full of life
when you've been so devoid of the light

So she took a chance and raised her branches
as she swayed with the wind

Somehow she instantly felt stronger
She knew that the storm could no longer stop her

The tree watched with joy as the bunnies danced at her feet
Suddenly against her skin she felt some heat

The sun was finally breaking free from the clouds
The tree was again covered with leaves, so bright and loud

She had suffered through the storm
But in the end a stronger tree was born

Clearly it wasn't the light that saved the tree
But her ability to find joy in anything.
