Man... it's been awhile!

I took an official "off-season" break, and with less downtime at work I haven't been making Spark a top priority. Sowwy :(

I've missed all my Sparkies terribly, though. It did feel good to (kinda) let go for a specified length of time. I didn't go ALL out and completely abandon ship, but I did allow myself a few extra drinks here and there. I backed my mileage way down for couple weeks, and I truly feel like it did a body good.

Saturday we had some friends in town, so we took them to our favorite trail. Y'all... I was running with five 20-something dudes that are in decent shape. Not only did I keep up with them, but I BEAT them!!!! One of my friends has been a runner for years, and he's got a blazing pace. He really challenged me, but I impressed him by keeping up even on the 30% inclines. By the 4.5m mark, they all ran out of steam and started walking. But I ran to the end (5miles) then circled back to find them and finish again. I felt so strong, and I couldn't stop smiling.

My next challenge is going to be getting my mileage up for the 15k in April. I've got a couple 5k's peppered in between, but I'm not going to put too much stock in them. I'll just be using them as training runs.

Also.. this week I'm starting an experiment with my nutrition. As you could tell from my last blog, I'm having a really hard time with carbs. They get me in a crazy funk that lasts for DAYS afterward. I'm going to try and do 30%carb/30% fat/ 40% protein. I'm nervous that the reduction in carbs is going to zap my energy, but I'm going to hang in there for at least 14 days. I was considering maybe trying Paleo.. but I've concluded it's just not my style. I LOVE cottage cheese and yogurt. I abhor dinosaur portions of meat. Since I'm doubling my protein goals, I think I'm going to stick with dairy, legumes, and fish to up my intake. I'll keep you guys posted on my progress!

Since conference, my workload has increased signifacantly. So I want to apologize for not being the supported Sparkie that I once was, I just don't have as much downtime during the day! I still love you guys, and so thankful for your support. I'll really, really try to keep in touch.

I'm glad to hear everything is good and that you are alright. Just drop in and say hi once in a while. It's all good.

    I'm trying to reduce my carbs as well...its tough, so any tips are greatly appreciated! I mean even on a day when I was trying to have barely any carbs I still ended up within range, on my low end. because I was "detoxing" from bad weeks of stress and high carb eating, I wanted to have an almost zero carb day. I told myself only lean proteins, fruits and veggies. but between yogurt and fruit, I wasn't able to keep my carbs down where I would have liked :(

So I'm really interested in seeing how it goes for you and maybe supporting each other!
