Spring Healthy Living Challenge, Week 1: Goals
Monday, February 04, 2013
1. What are your goals for this challenge? What do you want to accomplish (doesn't specifically have to be weight related) over these next 8 weeks?
I'm setting a pretty ambitious goal of losing 20 pounds in the next 8 weeks. In order to do that, I need to commit to tracking every single bite of food, being more conscious about everything I put into my mouth (no more unconscious handfuls of cereal or pretzels), and generally being active. I also want to be a good team member, and hope to inspire and motivate my teammates. Finally, I really want to continue working on understanding the emotional part of this journey, because I know that, for me, success will only come if I address the underlying emotional reasons for being overweight in the first place. I would also really love to move up to the next spark level (curently about 3000 points away).
2. How will you go about reaching those goals and work toward those accomplishments? What do you need to do to make them happen?
In terms of nutrition, I plan to load up on fruits and veggies throughout the week, continue drinking at least 10 glasses of water a day (thankfully not a problem for me!), and be better about including healthy vegetarian protein sources in every meal.
I've set a fitness goal to walk at least 5 miles every day. I had surgery on Christmas Eve, and have not yet been cleared for more strenuous activities or lifting weights of any sort, but as soon as I am, I plan to join a gym.
In order to be supportive of my team members, I will visit sparkpages and message boards and post positive feedback. We're all in this together and I think we'll be stronger as a team!
As for the emotional aspect, I will spend some time every day thinking introspectively about my goals, why I want them, and what obstacles have kept me from reaching them in the past. I'll post blog entries to keep track of my thoughts.
