Take Some Paws from the Superbowl Frenzy

Sunday, February 03, 2013

Are you tired of all the Superbowl hype? Your team not playing? Not a football fan? Need something to bring a smile to your face? Why not give up the good ole "Number One finger" wag, and have some tail waggin' fun? Tune into Puppy Bowl 2013.

Here's how it works: The puppies are let loose into a play area 19 feet by 10 feet designed to loosely resemble a football field with artificial turf and end zones. The puppies are rotated in and out in 20-minute shifts. Not all of the referee's calls are taken lightly

"Hey, I take offense with that call!" What ya say we jump the ref?!"

Nearly 100 people work on the production, and shoot about 70 hours of video with six cameras to get the final two hours of “game time” play. One of the game’s most popular features is the Water Bowl Cam, which provides a view looking up through water dishes sunk into the ground in each end zone.

Hey, and if you're not a puppy person, but a cat person, there's something for you to cheer about too - the Kitten Half-time show!

All of the puppies, kittens, and other pets participating in the Puppy Bowl broadcasts were among these animals waiting for adoption into “furever homes.”

As an added bonus this year's bowl will feature the Hedgehog cheerleaders! Previously the cheerleaders have been bunnies and piglets.

Puppy Bowl IX will air repeatedly for 12 hours starting at 3 p.m. Eastern Time, which is 12 noon Pacific, so if you want to watch the two legged version, and the four legged version you'll be able to do that.
