My family decided that official weigh in day should be Saturday morning even though we started trying to eat healthy on Monday. While I think most people expect to lose a bit more weight the first week due to the elimination of water weight and the shock to your body of eating differently, I must say we all had a really good week.
Sarah is down 10.5 lbs
Chuck lost an even 10
and I am down by 11.5.
It is a great start and hopefully very motivating to my family. They say success breeds success. I know this is true for me. Momentum is a key ingredient to continued forward motion in life as well as physics. LOL.
We stopped the veggie detox after 3 days but we learned that we don't need to be controlled by food and we do need to eat more veggies. My family is getting 3 fruits and a minimum of 3 veggies a day... most of the time, more. My Sarah is taking her vitamins and eating something within an hour of getting up each day which is really hard for her. Chuck had half a dessert one day this week-- that is a huge accomplishment for my sweets loving guy. And I dropped the habit of my evening beer, cut back on my coffee to an average of 1-2 cups a day from 8-10, and we are all thinking about what are eating instead of randomly eating junk.
My goals this week are to continue to eat my fruits and veg, make sure I get in my 60g of protein per day and do more research into how low glycemic eating fits in with weight loss. It seems to me that a lot of lower glycemic options do not necessarily fit into a healthy calorie range.
I also plan to work on goals with Chuck and Sarah. I want them to continue to eat their fruits and veg and to make sure they eat at regular intervals combining foods with protein and fiber. I want to get to the gym 3 times this week as a family. I am going to make awards to give to Chuck and Sarah based on their accomplishments and I already have something special in mind for when they get to their 10% weight loss goals. By summertime... we are going to be rockin' our swimsuits.
Til then... we have to work on making eating healthy and working out not so much of an accomplishment. What I mean is... we are working on making eating well and exercising just a normal part of our everyday lives.
Back to my favorite quote... "We become what we want to be by consistently being what we want to become each day." We are going to be a healthy, happy and active family.
