The temps were in the low 40's today so it actually felt decent outside. My younger daughter had a dressage lesson. It takes around six hours total to get to the barn, hook up the trailer, load the horse, arrive at the lesson barn, tack up, do the lesson, go back to our barn, put the trailer away, put the horse in a stall to cool out, feed her, come back in an hour or so, brush her out, put her away, put the tack away, and return home.
(This is from a show last year. They have come a long way since this picture!)
It sounds like a lot, but we LOVE it. The lesson went GREAT and my daughter and her horse are making wonderful strides (a little pun there) on their riding. I get some one-on-one time with this daughter when we do "our horsey thing." Since it's still chilly here, we always get lunch while her horse cools out in a stall. Today we split a grilled chicken meal that came with mashed potatoes, green beans, and a roll. For desert I had one piece of her Kit Kat bar. She was still hungry, being 16 and riding for over an hour, I can see why. For me it was just enough.
I stayed in my calorie range and did get some walking in. I didn't get to do my usual power walk, but I did walk.
I still really enjoy being around the horses and I love seeing the bond that she has with her horse. It reminds me of the love I shared with my mare. Another day to count my blessings!
