I just got a toy!

Saturday, February 02, 2013

My husband just started his new job, and for the first time in more than 10 years, he works for a BIG company. He's been startup man for a long time, and got a really cool opportunity to work for a giant, but to start his own team that is completely self directed. It is sort of like being a tiny little startup inside an enormous company.

He's very excited, because the programming problem he is working on is really exciting. I'm very excited because the company bought him a bunch of new toys to try to integrate into the program he is writing. So..... we got a fitbit!

I really know next to nothing about this thing, and I think it underestimated (by a lot) the number of calories I burned in my workout, but it is a tool. If it helps to keep me motivated, I don't care how accurate the numbers are.

So sparkfriends - do any of you use this toy? I'm interested in advice here. I'm excited to learn about it, but all I've done so far is gotten it to sync with both sparkpeople and my fitbit account. That was pretty fun, and my flower is growing!!

Hope all is well with everyone, I'll be in touch with a fitbit report in a couple of days!

New toys are always so much fun. I've heard people say a lot of good things about Fitbit, and underestimating calories burned is way better than overestimating. Is it something you where all day? I would be such an obsessive checker! Sometimes I can't even wear my beloved Garmin on my runs because I can't stop looking at the numbers every 30 seconds.

Hope the husband loves his new job. Sounds like an interesting fit.

Congrats to your husband on his new job!! Don't know much about the fitbit as I'm not into those gizmos.

Got mine in early January. Love it thus far. Underestimates bicycling, and upper body exercise I am sure, but walking and such which I like to do alot, doubt it underestimates too bad. I like that it gives me floors/height for my walking in this new city I now live in that has a lot of hills.

I got one in December and I love it! I go to Weight Watchers and count calories but it is keeping me going with the steps. I do sync with SP but only for the exercise minutes. There is a team here called Fitbit Users Unite that you may want to check out for advice about how it works for calorie burn, etc.
