Last January I started a weight loss joueney in earnest. In August I hit target (lost about 50 pounds) and I've now been 6 months into maintenance...
I built a gym routine designed to get me back to athletic form and have stuck to it with some success. My diet was always under control
The last four weeks have seen me put on 6 pounds above my lowest. This has been a bit of a shock! Whats gone wrong? Is the rot of maintenance being to set in?
This is odd. OK there was Christmas but.. I had flu.. then a dose of gout (immobilzes you for about a week) then to cap it all I caught a cold.. Four weeks of pretty ropy health... :(
But I still don't get it.. There were no diet lapses over Christmas.. I never feel the need. Apart from a planned two week deload I have used the gym diligently (following the SLVi3 routine for the second time). Indeed I noticed my weight crawling back up. Was a little bit more careful with portions AND chucked in an extra 30 minute cardio session a week.
On top of that I've been putting in four hours af archery a week . I don't count this as exercise but I am pulling a 35 pound bow and it is a far from sedentary activity,,
I am lifting heavy -my bodyfat is pretty stable and possibly dropping a little. Maybe 2 of those pounds are extra muscle. Indeed my whole routine was built round the idea that if I did have a minor lapse in diet then muscle growth would be enhanced.
In the absence of much obvious I'm putting the weight gain down to the colds and flu..I hope..
I'm looking to ski in a few weeks. I might up the cardio (in truth my aerobic capacity was compromised by cold..happens)..
Maintenance is hell. The diet and the exercise id OK - it's the sinking feeling you get when the scale seems to telling you that you have been bad..
Thanks Berg for noticing :)
