Dedicated book room aka library

Saturday, February 02, 2013

We dedicate one room of the house (generally known as the living room) to our books and my piano. What made it particularly nice is that our best sofa is in the same room, and several wood arm chairs are there. Thus, it is a good room for quiet reading, discussions among ourselves, a place for our visitors to chat with us, and a place for me to play the piano and study and write.

We have a 15 foot long wall that has floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. However, this does not mean that is the ONLY place that we have books. Goodness, I think the only place that there are no books is in the bathrooms (again, books do not like water). We each have a small stash (10+/- board feet of books) in each of our bedrooms. We have books (20 board feet) in the kitchen, another 80 board feet of books in the family room, and, well, some books stacked here and there.

That sounds absolutely heavenly! I wish you could post a photo of it. My dream is to make one of our bedrooms into a library when our youngest grows up and out of our home.

I have a room as a Library also, and I love it for a quiet place to go! We often have friends visit and that is our favorite room to bring them, because there is no real distractions. It is the first room off our entryway to the house. We also have books in all the other rooms too, but this room definitely has all our favorite "Photo Type" books and a lot of our general books to read. It is a small room but 4 to 6 persons can easily visit in it comfortably.

sounds like my house before I downsided. I even had sliding bookshelves.
