The Big (Yoga) Change

Saturday, February 02, 2013

Let's start out with the great news: my eating has been perfect. Okay, as close to perfect as possible, like consistently within all of my ranges, keeping my fat on the lower side, and making sure my cholesterol and sodium are in check.

But I know that eating well is not enough; I have to strength train and workout if I want to have a healthy, athletic (read: rockin') body.

My job commute, and its location, have really put a crimp in my exercise this winter because I both leave and arrive home after dark, meaning I can't run. I don't have access to a treadmill all the time, and I also couldn't make gym classes on weekdays because of my schedule--I arrive home just a little too late for the last evening classes at the area gyms.

ENTER THE YOGA CHALLENGE!

I have decided to take the next week and try to implement a BIG change: 75 minutes of yoga every day for the next 5 days.

I have made a lot of little changes since January 1st that I have been successful with:
-taking vitamins every day
-rinsing with mouthwash (i.e. better oral hygiene)
-listening to a get-moving/fight song every morning

and these changes have had a tremendous impact on other areas of my life:
-fantastic eating
-nearly kicked my diet coke addiction; still have 1/wk, but used to be 1/day
-mega work organization and productivity boost
-keeping better routines at home, including going to bed earlier
-getting to work earlier

However, 75 minutes of yoga is definitely the biggest change I'm trying to make. Even though it doesn't matter if I don't achieve this goal--I can always try again--I really want to show myself that no matter how busy I am, I have 75 minutes to give to myself 5 days a week to workout.

I'll report back on the results.

This sounds quite challenging but I love the plan. I remember reading through this previously but did not have time to comment. Better late than never.

You are doing great!! The yoga will be good for you and you can split it up and do some in the morning and some in the evening.
