Shovelling Snow is a Good Workout!

Struggling this week with a sluggish digestive system, but I'm not going to dwell on it. I watch my fibre and sodium, try to drink as much water as possible, and sometimes it's still not enough. It can't last forever. I really hate the short-term effect it has on the scale, though.
I'm still trying to leave size 12 behind, but I'm not there (size 10) yet. I'm wearing my size 12 pants with a belt -- if I don't, they start falling down slowly over time and if I was carrying a wrench I'd look like a plumber.
Anyway, I did great on my January plateau-buster. I'm really happy with myself for sticking to that. I need something new for February, some kind of monthly plan or goal to get me through the grey winter days.
Last night I had winter comfort food for dinner: braised veal shanks (osso bucco) with mashed potatoes and maple-glazed root vegetables (mostly beets). I started off with a disappointing cauliflower and pear soup. I didn't realize it would be a creamy, cheesy soup, made with the kind of strong cheese that I have strenuously avoided my entire life because I find the taste unpleasant. The soup was edible, but I wish I had ordered one of the other kinds, like butternut squash or curry lentil.
Anyway, the osso bucco more than made up for it. I had eaten lightly in the early part of the day, so I was able to have those comforting (and very filling!) foods for dinner.
Yesterday I also shoveled snow for the first time this winter. Usually DH and The Boy do it, but I went out and did some this time. Oh I am groaning today. It was light, fluffy snow, so it wasn't that it was a lot of effort. I guess my muscles are just protesting the unfamiliar movement. So it must have been a good workout, haha!
