If I'm overweight and out of shape, that proves I'm not effectively monitoring my diet and exercise.
How to improve? Measure. Measure. Measure.
Measure and record what and how much you eat. Get a scale. weigh what you eat.
Keep a paper and pencil or smart phone with you when you eat. Record!
When you exercise, record minutes, effort, and other parameters. Back off when your body tells you to. "Backing off" does not mean quit. It means do less so you can exercise another day.
Weigh yourself religiously. Yes, there will be random daily fluctuations, but it keeps your mind on the problem at hand.
Record all your food, all your exercise and your weight.
