BLC Winter Challenge!
Write a blog on the theme: Can I forgive myself for the past? How will it affect my successful journey to better health?
Forgiveness is a part of the overall process of healing. We all have things for which we need forgiveness, both from ourselves and from others. Obviously we have no control over others. But we DO have control over ourselves and the ability to forgive. Since this healthy journey is all about healing; healing our bodies, healing our souls then forgiveness is a natural step in the process. We MUST forgive ourselves in order to move forward.
I'll be honest, I never thought much about it before now. I never thought that I needed to forgive myself in order to move forward. Perhaps this is what sets those who lose weight successfully from those of us who have yet to keep it off.
I need to forgive myself for eating unhealthily all these years. I need to forgive myself for not exercising despite knowing I need to and despite being in the military where the opportunities to learn that habit were endless. I need to forgive myself for not being perfect. I need to forgive myself for not having kept the weight off the first time I lost it. I need to forgive myself all the negative and disparaging remarks I STILL make about myself based on my weight and looks.
What happens when I forgive myself? I'm not sure but I bet its amazing. The baggage will fall off and I may find myself unchained and able to move forward more smoothly then before.
