Friday evening

Friday, February 01, 2013

The start of the weekend, and I'm limp. Yesterday was month-end, which is always crazy in any finance-related business. I didn't get out of the office until after 8PM. "Dinner," if I can call it that, was cold tortillas and cheese. Then I got next to no sleep, though I don't know why. Sometimes the eyes just won't close, and this was one of those nights.I'd have happily phoned in deceased (as opposed to "sick"), but the boss had told both me and the lead that if we phoned in she'd personally hunt us down, so I went to work. I spent two and a half hours trying to reconcile figures that wouldn't reconcile, and a co-worker asked for a copy of one of my old documents. Five minutes later she asked when I thought I might have it for her!

So right now I'm having some wine and watching last night's What Not To Wear while I get ready to put a couple of chicken thighs in the oven (as soon as they thaw apart). It will feel so good not to have to work tomorrow! I'm not the sleep-in type, but I figure that if I'm snuggled in my easy chair with my knitting and a hot mug of coffee watching my guys, that's resting, too. I plan to get a bit of a workout during the Super Bowl on Sunday since my Niners are going to win -- sorry, going to PLAY. I might be wrong here, but I think that bouncing in my chair pumping my fists and shouting, "TOUCHDOWN!!!" counts as exercise. I could be wrong, of course...

I'm about to get my taxes done, and I know I'm getting a good refund. I had been lusting over a gorgeous set of Pfaltzgraff dishes, but on further thought they're going to wait. I'm trying to do decent cooking with a set of three and a half year old K-Mart knives, which are about ready for the thrift store. I'm planning to get a decent set of knives. On a thread on one of my teams the discussion is Cartier vs. Tiffany. Right now I'm debating Solingen vs. Sheffield! But gorgeous dishes can't save mediocre food, while great food can make even paper plates beautiful. And Pfaltzgraff isn't going anywhere.

Time to go make dinner!

I have to agree. I think a good set of knives is a much better purchase than new plates. My husband bought a set of dishes back in 1996 and we are still using those. Why not? They are a tad chipped, and yes, I am sure some have broken, but with three people there are enough that I don't have to run the dishwasher after every meal and they work just fine. I will replace them or supplement them when I have to worry too much about if I have a plate to eat on and not before.

    Enjoy the Super Bowl.

Do you have a Gooid Will by you? If you do, and it's anything like "my" Good Will, there is an overflow of beautiful dishes for next to nothing -- including Pfaltzgraff, many kids of bone chine (boy, that would NOT be good for me -- break dishes too easily), and everyday ware. Same with glassware. Check it out.

Otherwise, take time to breathe this weekend. You deserve it. HUGS

Enjoy the Super Bowl! I will be watching too. Since I really do not have a favorite team, I will root for the 49er, too!

GO 49er! emoticon

Have a restful Super Bowl weekend, hope your 49'ers win! Chigaco Cutlery knives are very good, we have had the same set for 40 years, only maintenance required is a good sharpening stone.. When we cook supper at church or for the food kitchen we take our own knives.

I can so relate to nights you can't sleep. There nights I know I never slept, but suspect I did a lot of dozing. I will also be cheering for San Francisco Sunday.
