SKIN ...

Friday, February 01, 2013

ON ONE OF MY SPARK TEAMS, WE WERE DISCUSSING SKIN. LIKE, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT WHEN IT REALLY STARTS TO SAG?

LET ME TELL YOU, IF THERE WAS AN AWARD OUT THERE FOR THE MOST HANGING SKIN IN THE WORLD, I WOULD BE IN THE TOP TEN! AT MY HIGHEST WEIGHT, I WAS 354. NOW I AM AT 227. THAT ISN'T GREAT BUT IT'S PRETTY BIG TIME FOR ME. BUT THE SKIN!

THIS HAPPENS TO SO MANY PEOPLE AS THEY LOSE WEIGHT. WHAT YOU SEE ON THE BIGGEST LOSER, IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE. WE KNEW A WOMAN THAT WAS ON THERE AND SHE LOST A TON OF WEIGHT. BUT BEFORE THE SEASON FINALE, THEY GET TO HAVE EXCESS SKIN REMOVED - IF THE DR. FEELS THEY ARE MEDICALLY STABLE. BUT! THAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SHOW SO YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT YOURSELF! SOMEONE THAT STARTS OUT AT 400 POUNDS; NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY EXERCISE, IS GOING TO HAVE HANGING SKIN.

THERE WAS A MAN IN NEBRASKA THAT WEIGHED NEARLY 1,000 POUNDS. A HOSPITAL IN SOUTH DAKOTA AGREED TO DO GASTRIC BY-PASS SURGERY ON HIM. HE DID PRETTY WELL, AND HE LOST LOTS OF WEIGHT, BUT AFTER THE FIRST 100 POUNDS, HE HAD TROUBLE EXERCISING BECAUSE OF THE HANGING SKIN BETWEEN HIS LEGS. HE HAD TO HAVE THAT REMOVED BEFORE HE COULD PROGRESS ANY FURTHER. HE PAID FOR NONE OF THIS. THEN HE WANTED MORE REMOVED AND IT WAS A NEVER ENDING THING.

FOR ME, MY ARMS AND TUMMY ARE THE WORST. I HAVE TO USE HAND WEIGHTS EVERY SINGLE DAY. WHY? BECAUSE MY BACK WILL NOT SUPPORT MY WEIGHT ENOUGH TO WALK IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION DUE TO THE A.S. SO I HAVE TO USE A WALKER AND I REALLY LEAN ON IT HEAVILY. STILL, I CAN GET IN AT LEAST 2,000 STEPS A DAY AND THAT'S ABOUT IT. I CAN'T STAND IN ONE SPOT BY THE STOVE TO COOK. I HAVE TO HAVE SOMETHING TO LEAN ON. SINCE OUR KITCHEN IS A GALLEY TYPE, THERE IS NO ROOM FOR A STOOL. SO EVERYTHING I MAKE GOES INTO THE CROCK POT OR THE OVEN.

BUT THE SKIN I HAVE ON BOTH MY UPPER AND LOWER ARMS LOOKS A LOT LIKE A PELICAN. IF I WENT OUT IN A HIGH WIND, IN A SLEEVELESS BLOUSE, I MIGHT TAKE OFF!
I HAVE HUGE MUSCLES AND CAN BENCH PRESS A LOT OF WEIGHT FOR A WOMAN - PROBABLY ENOUGH TO LIFT A BUICK - BUT IF THE WIND WAS BLOWING, IT WOULD BE "HELLO IOWA" ...

Erin, You said: " I WAS 354. NOW I AM AT 227. THAT ISN'T GREAT BUT IT'S PRETTY BIG TIME FOR ME." Umm....I think 130 lbs is pretty darn awesome lady! But don't blow away Erin....unless you can fly all the way to Illinois! haha

I know what you mean about sagging skin. I've only lost a little weight, but already the skin on my arms and tummy are beginning to sag. But that's OK. I'd rather have it sag than be filled up with fat! When I reach my goal weight, and it won't be any time soon, I'll probaby look into having a tummy tuck.
Hope you have a great and successful weekend!
Hugz,
Sharon

A side of weightloss which is often glossed over or ignored. Think I'd rather have the sagging skin than the extra weight though

I've heard the arm skin called "bat wings" by several people. I will probably never have the excess skin removed unless it becomes medically necessary...my worst is in my belly. I have an "apron" of belly that will always be there! That's okay...it's not the reason I'm trying to take off the pounds anyway. Hugs, Jeannie

When I get to my healthy weight which I'm hoping to do by the end of this year. I'll definitely be a candidate for some skin removal. Unfortunately, I probably won't have that as I highly doubt my insurance (Medicare Plan) would pay for any of it. Still, the weight loss benefits are worth more and I'd still go for it knowing I'll have to suck it up and live with the loose skin on my tummy and arms. I'm not actively seeking a man or will be wearing a 2 piece bikini so I'm fine with it. Enjoy your weekend Erin even if it's doing something small for yourself that you enjoy doing.

Hugs,
