The thrift store

Friday, February 01, 2013

We have a little consignment store that opened about 3 months ago.
I breezed in a few times and found it filled with excellent items.
I had searched online for a winter coat with a hood that looked
dressy enough for church but not so radical that I would be asked
to leave. And I wanted something affordable.
I checked out the store yesterday and found a nice coat that had
a hood, zipped up and was low maintenance-just under $17.00
with tax.
DS1 needed a new coat as he has one he wears to work and it
just doesn't cut it for church. Since I had looked at all the coats
yesterday, I told him to stop at the office. DH arrived about the
same time so I sent the "men" to go shopping. I described the one
coat that I felt would look great on him and was the right size.
About 10 minutes later, both came walking in and DS was wearing
the blue coat with the yellow stripe detail and yellow lining.
It fit him perfectly. Final price was $5.09 with tax. Now that
was a coat he could afford. The owner was selling coats at 20% off.
Guess I'll go back to check the inventory in the future before I
spend hours looking on line.
I felt this was a good lesson that would translate to SP. Look
around, find something that fits and what is even better, SP
is free. How's that for a bargain?
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend. HUGS!

I haven't shopped thrift stores lately. It's time for me to check into the thrift stores in my area again. Glad you were able to find coats and get them for a decent price.

I love (and I don't say that often) thrift stores. Sioux Falls, Rapid City or Yankton, that's the first store I hit

I started buying my clothes second-hand years ago; it bothered me to go into any store and see that regardless of what I bought, there were probably going to be at least 7 or 8 more people buying the same thing (judging from what was on the rack.) It's hard to be have your own individual style if you're wondering who is going to walk through the door wearing the same thing you are!!

Now, I buy my clothes at second-hand stores because I feel absolutely victorious at the bargain, the thrill of the hunt!

And I feel absolutely victorious at having discovered SP!!

I just LOVE thrift stores!!! I pretty much shop there or at community yard sales for all my clothes. Especially now that I am changing sizes. Yesterday I was in one and guess what, I got 3 pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans for $5!!! Even on sale they are $19.99 each so I figure I saved at least $55 and if I had paid retail at $35 each, well I saved a bundle!!! The biggest thrill was I bought size 14 and they fit!!!

Only problem for me with thrift stores is that they have very few petite sizes (height, not weight!), but I do need to make another run! Thanks for the reminder! Hugs!
