the Cootie Nurse

Friday, February 01, 2013

Today my visiting nurse came...She called last night and said (GRRRR) that she would be here between 8:30 and 9:00. Well, that's my workout time but I couldn't very welll tell her to forget about I grumbled, "OK see you then." And at 8:30 I had my computer in the living room waiting for her to show up. She showed up all right....but not until 9:25!! By which time I was foaming at the mouth. She came in, coughing up a lung into her arm. Then she unwrapped a thermometer cover and TOUCHED THE END THAT GOES INTO MY MOUTH WITH HER BARE UNWASHED COOTIECOVERED HANDS. I wish I'd had the nerve to refuse to put it in my mouth but I'm a wuss.

She asked my weight and when I told her she said, "I NEVER would have thought you weigh that much. You carry it very well. I was wearing my Spark People Tshirt and it turns out she's a Sparker too. As much as I love a sister Sparker...dude, when you're coughing up a lung, WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE TOUCHING ME, 'kay??

So finally she left and I hopped downstairs to do my WATP mile. I did the five minute warmup and the classic mile. Two days ago when I did that my hips were BOTH killing me. Screaming at me. I had to take multiple rests. Today I was almost done when my newly operated on hip started to talk back a little bit. But I didn' t have to stop. I did the whole thing straight through. YAY ME!!!

maybe. MAYBE it won't be too long tll I can do the two mile??? wouldn't that be awesome. And wouldn't it be even more awesome come spring to be able to walk a good mile or two up and down these steep hills without collapsing???? Think it's possible? Gonna make a try for it. I think I am approaching that sweet spot when aday wihout a workout is a day without sunshine. I love that spot....where it's a GIVEN you put on your workout grubs in the morning....It's a GIVEN that you are gonna shed some sweat.

Don't screw this up now Cynthia. YOu've got it going. Don't let it stop.

Agree with the others ... it's your body and you must take control ... either tell the nurse to wash her hands / put on gloves or something ... don't let her spread whatever she's dealing with. Your body, your rules! ... on the other hand CONGRATS on making it thru your workout without stopping ... I am so glad your hip seems to be treating you ok ... Take Care!

Yuck about the nurse! I agree with the others -- you should definitely report her. I sincerely hope you don't get sick.

Gross with that nurse, how unprofessional -should report her really. You would think there are certain standards of care. i think telling her to wash her hands because you are very prone to infection would not have been out of line.
Way to go with the walking video! I still enjoy my very first DVD -Kathy Smith Matrix Method Power Walk for Weight Loss -it has catchy music and a background I just love seeing -the desert when I am in this deep freeze and has very interesting steps and moves with weights in some of them. It never gets old for me and the weights make it challenging.
Keep on going, you are doing great! (keeping fingers crossed you didn't catch anything from that nurse).

Thats dreadful and dangerous my friend ..
I think you should report her to the clinic .. god knows where she had been or what she was doing before she got to you..
Hygene is the only way to prevent disease from spreading and this must be addressed .
Glad you are getting your exercise in and it is going much better ..
On ward and Upward Cynthia ... Hugs Susie

Hand-washing is the most important way to stop the spread of germs, and no telling what her last patient may have exposed her to. I would encourage anyone to request a health care provider wash their hands before an assessment, and most health care providers would willingly do so. And I would request a new thermometer cover if someone touched it even if they did wash their hands!

Good for you Buddy, in feeling so pretty good with your exercise. Not so good that the cootie nurse wasn't so sanitary! Naughty! Where from out of the woods, did she come from? ha! Good luck to you with your new exercise regime and I will do my best with my new one too! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
