Family Healthy Lifestyle Challenge

For the past 3 years, my mom and i have been participating in the Live Healthy Iowa 100 Day Challenge. This year we have invited my sister-in-law and have decided to make our own long term challenge, to continue to live a more healthy lifestyle for more than 100 days. We would like to invite anyone that would like to participate to subscribe to this blog and join us on our journey to a healthier lifestyle.

The Challenge: Starting Feb 4th-Dec 31st

The first part of the challenge is to log at least 30 mins of physical activity 5 days a week. Every 2 weeks(Monday Mornings) we will have a weigh in and post progress in lbs lost. You can also post any other progress you would like such as lost a pants size or lost _ inches.

The second part of the challenge will be to post a monthly goal for yourself such as quit drinking pop or eat more fruits and veggies.

    starting in march i have been helped with really honing in on my nutrition now that i have the exercise thing in hand. i have lost 7 lbs since starting to really watch my eating habits and keeping my blood sugar on a more steady line. i really enjoy working out with kel as she keeps pressing me to push myself to work harder in the gym to burn more cals to lose more weight. i cant thank her enough for all the help she is giving me. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    UGH, the time of year i hate. It get dark so damn early and it's cold and i don't want to get out of bed. Have to push myself to get 1.5 hour workouts in 5 times a week.

    here it is december and we are getting ready for the holidays. I have gotten past thanksgiving with not adding to my weight (thank you gym). this week my goal is to get to the gym 5 nights and sunday with kelly. I dont want to be gaining during the christmas holiday with all the food and baking that will be done at my house. I am going to be working out hard. i want to be the best i can be. as katy perry says "hear me roar". emoticon emoticon

    I am not going to be weighing myself for a while. All i get is frustrated that it hasnt changed despite my working out 5days a week. My doctor said to not focus on the "number" but how i feel and how my blood sugar is doing. I have been feeling very good and i am sleeping better. I am also getting toned and fit. My last pair of new pants were a size smaller and the new black ones i just bought are too big. I am losing inches. I really love working out with kelly on sunday. she is a very good trainer. My goal for this next two weeks is to not "pig" out on thanksgiving. I dont need to eat like it will be my last meal. emoticon emoticon

    Have been keeping up on my goal of consuming less sugar. Have been drinking my coffee black for 2 whole weeks. Now that harvest is winding down I will be getting back in the gym regularly.

Nov's goal: Drop a pants size by Thanksgiving. emoticon

    have been working out with kelly on the weekends!! Fun to have someone there to push my comfort level. Havent really lost any weight, but feel more toned, got a new pair of pants a size smaller, and my sugars have gotten better. My doc said not to worry about the "number" just continue on and eventually it will come. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Finally have time to update. Have only had time to work out on Sunday's with mom which is AWESOME!!!! I am trying something new, im trying to cut out sugar so im making myself drink black coffee, which isn't that bad. 1 am one week into it so lets see if i can keep it up!! emoticon

    no change on the scale, but worked out at the fitness center 5 days last week. on sundays i get to work out with kelly. she works me hard, but at my level of comfort. i am feeling much better.

    Sorry I'm a week late with this!!! No scale loss but eating lots of fruits and veggies and really watching my fat intake. Now if i could just get my booty out of bed in the mornings to get a work out it. So that's my goal for the next few weeks. Enjoy the beautiful weather!!! emoticon

    feeling good about my exercising. it is making me feel much better. no weight loss, but eating all the right things. lots of fruits, veggies and salads. hoping the cooler weather helps out with getting in more exercise. emoticon emoticon

    Had a great Labor Day weekend!!! Unfortunately the food and beverages did not do good things for my progress. I ran 4 miles 4 days last week in the heat and was doing really well on my nutrition. So back to where i left off last week.

    no change in the weight. work outs were on 30min because of the heat. i am hoping to do much better now that it has cooled off. I am taking on the "NO EXCUSES" as my work out mantra. emoticon

    Glad the vacations are over, back to normal healthy eating. Still running 3-4 times a week. My goal is to get up 3 mornings a week and get a workout in. It's not light enough out in the mornings for me to run so I'll be working out in my living room. Going to be good and hot this week so have drink plenty of water. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    i reached my goal for the last 2 weeks. i DID NOT gain any while at the state fair. now that i am home need to get more fitness hours in. that is my goal for the next 2 weeks. while the weather is nice i need to take advantage of the outdoors. emoticon emoticon

    scale went up just a bit. eating from stress is not a good thing. consumed way too many empty calories. my next hurdle is the state fair and all the yummy foods they have there. am taking much from home to make and take to the grounds. although i will probably frequent the cattlemans. cant beat a grilled, home raised hamburger. and will do alot of walking while there. need more fitness hours. emoticon

    So my goal of not gaining on vacation was a fail. Stupid yummy junk food!! Ok time to get back on track. Back to eating fruits, veggies and lean protein.

Goal for next 2 weeks: Not eat so much junk on the next vacations.

August Goal: Continue to run 3-4 times a week.

    Did not have any lose but i have started running again. Legs and stomach are getting slimmer. Hoping not to over eat on vacation which is really hard to do when you go on vacation w/Kyle the human gabage disposal!!!

Goal is to keep running at least 4 times a week.

    cant wait to get rid of what ever bug decided i need to be its host. im tired of the sore throat and cough and wheezing. this is the first time since my transplant that i have been this sick. I did lose 1lb this last two weeks.

my goal for july is more exercise and to eat healthy at the co fair. i will be taking my own meals so i can control what i eat. that way i can stay away from the yummy fair food.

    No movement of the scale this past 2 weeks. That's ok. Need to get back to running 3 times a week. Hopefully the weather starts to cooperate so I can. Hope everyone has a happy and healthy 4th of July!!!!

    Sorry I'm late with my blog, has been a crazy hectic work week. Im down 1 lb from last 2 weeks so that good. I have been eating the crap out of fresh fruits and veggies. I love this time of year. Looking foward to the next 2 weeks, going to finally nice and hot!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    no loss/no gain. hate my scale, hate the fact i cant make it move. my goals for the next two weeks are more outside time and less chips and ice cream. emoticon

its been 6mos and i have only lost 8lbs total. i am at my wits end. i wanted to be at least half way to my goal. i need help for the next 6 mos so i look better on my anniversary. any help will be appreciated ladies!!!!

    I gained 2# this last 2 weeks, but since February I have cut pop out for the most part. I think i can count on 1 hand total how many i have had. Pretty good i think. For then next 2 weeks I need to buckle down with my 30 min work outs 5 nights! Happy Summer! emoticon

    Did not gain or loose anything again this week. Watching my food intake and trying to get on the bike or walk everyday. Busy, busy with kids but at least being on the go keeps me from munching on junk food. Trying to get this whole thing figured out with my acid refluxm not cool!

    lost nothing again. i drink 3litres of water a day, eat tons of fruits and veggies, exercise. dont know how much more i can do. my back pain has just been horrible, but i try to not let it stop me. i don't know what else to do. please help me!!!!!! emoticon

    Well i only lost 1 pound this last two weeks but 1 is better than none or a gain. My goal for the next 2 weeks a 15 minute intense cardio workout twices a day(which i did this morning already!!) and to drink more water.

So ladies, it's now June so lets take a look at our original goals and see what progress we have made towards them and see where we could make some adjustments.

    According to the scale no lose but clothes are fitting looser. Goal for this 2 weeks is to get in a 4 mile run at least 3 times a week. Excited for Ladies Golf to start 2mor night!!!! emoticon

    got on the scale this morning and NOTHING, no movement either way. I feel better and have more energy. i think it is the sunshine. my goal for the next two weeks is more exercise and less tv watching. going to try some new stuff this next two weeks for maybe a little shake up on the scale. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Better late than never! I lost 2# since April 15th. I walked the trail in town. There were a couple of nights when i took my little man with me and we road bikes, that was nice! My goal for the next 2 weeks is to walk/jog or ride bikes for at least 30min, also throw in 20reps of sit ups,push ups, jumping jacks and squats. I can officially fit back into my size 9 jeans but just need to loose a little more so they are not as tight! emoticon

    Well although the scale hasn't moved I am super proud of my progress the last 2 weeks. I have found a new workout that has been really challenging me. In this workout I do 4 rounds of 5 exercises: 10 Burpees, 15 Jump Lunges, 20 Pushups, 30 Mountain Climbers and 40 Air Squats all for time. So far the fastest i have been able to do it in 14 mins.

So my goal for the next 2 weeks is to keep pushing myself hard and to try and do at least 2 rounds where i can do all the pushups without stopping. Right now i am able to do 10-12 before stopping. emoticon

    Well I manage to gain weight these last two weeks, kind of confused about it but oh well! IT IS WHAT IT IS! For the month of April I WILL walk, walk, walk!

    i will have to weigh tomorrow am. overslept this morning and had to get to the lab so i wasnt late for work. walked at least 30min a day the last 2 weeks. ready to get outside and do some walking and move up to running.

My goal for the next 2 weeks is the exercising. I WILL make it happen. if i have to get home later each night cause i walked to my car.

I really need some pep talks thru the week to help me achieve my goal.

think warm weather and spring. emoticon emoticon

    Well i kicked ass on my running goal this last 2 weeks. I am up to running 40 mins or 4 miles. Unfortunately i have not lost any weight, in fact i have manged to gain weight. Getting very frustrated with the warm weather coming up and there is no way i could even think about fitting into my shorts.

So my new goal for April into May is to get back to 125 before my 30th Bday.
My next 2 weeks goal is to get 1.5-2 hours of exercise in 7 days a week.

    I lost 4.5# in the last 2 weeks. really wishing the weather would warm up so i can do my walking outside. Still watching my proportion sizes and did not have any soda at all these last 2 weeks!

My goal for the next 2 weeks is to get my 30 min of exercising in!

    didnt loose a single pound the last two weeks. have had my second diabetic class and found that to keep my sugars at a manageble level i only need to eat 3 carb choices at each meal.

    I am ok with the 1lb loss I have for the last 2 weeks. Yes it is disappointing.
My goal for march is to walk 5 days a week. I am going to continue with not drinking pop. I had 2 pops in the month of February. emoticon

    not very happy i only lost 1lb in 2wks. have changed my eating due to a new approach to my high blood sugars.

my goal for march is to exercise, maybe getting to go outside and walk and possibly start my running program. i will be having another diabetic class on the 12th. will be implementing more changes im sure. hoping for a better weight loss. emoticon

    i lost 5lbs in the last two weeks. managed to eat well at the expo. had my usual breakfast there and we took things for snacks and lunches. ate supper out and did good watching my food intake. exercise was ALOT of walking in 4 layers of clothes and boots while in des moines. while home i used my videos for my workouts. i feel i met my challenge for the two weeks.

my challenge for the next two weeks are to excercise and implement the things i learned at my class this morning.

    I managed to loose 6lbs in 2 weeks! So far with my goal of not having soda has been good minus the half of one i had yesterday, will continue with this goal for the rest of the month!
