So exercise is a big block for me. Not because I don't like to do it, but because my schedule is annoying. I used to work 7-3 every day. Now I work 9-5 because of my husband's schedule. I hate 9-5. I used to work out at 9:30 every day. But I can't do that if I've literally just sat down at my desk.
Now I know what you're thinking-why don't I just workout from 7-8 before work? Simple-I'm busy motivating my children to get dressed, eat breakfast, and have a good day. Some days that's easy-but other days, like today, it's a royal pain in the tushie. Some days, like today, I totally break down when they don't listen to me. How am I going to work out through THAT? I'm not. I'll break down all the sooner because they are ruining my workout.
I like my workout to be ME time. With no one else there to bug me. Plus, it's a nice way to break up my work day and my company is very cool about us doing it in the middle of the day. So why shouldn't I?
Yesterday I was chained to my desk, though, because of an issue that had to get resolved. That happens sometimes. Out of desperation I did a 10 minute workout-my own design, not SP's-and felt much better for it. It was a series of push-ups, squats, crunches, and walking (a la Walk Away the Pounds). That got my tension out, woke me up, and definitely raised my heart rate!
So today I have a meeting in another building on campus. I could drive to it, but I won't. Today I'm walking with a coworker to the meeting. Then, I'll take the super long way back to my building via one of our campus walking trails. That will make my total walk more than 1.5 miles, most of it after the meeting. If my coworker wants to walk back with me, I'll let him but he usually prefers running so I should be alone. Just me and my iPod. Now THAT is good exercise.
What are your favorite ways to fit exercise into your workday?
