new month, new beginning

new months are even better than new weeks - the slate is clean, you can commit, you can do things right. and here we are at the beginning of february.

it's also a good time to look back, what worked, what needs work. january was a crazy month for us, starting with the flu, packing, and moving to hawaii for the rest of winter. two weeks of stress really, but amazing through all that to stay on track with the scale. i've given up tracking nutrition for now, but the scale and i communicate daily - yes, more than once. and it has been happy with me because of the miles and miles of walking, and finally running again. when we arrived here on molokai and started walking up and down the hill where we are renting, our thighs were killing us for over a week - and we are both avid walkers, even hikers, and used to hills, but clearly this one was a bigger challenge. one that we've now conquered; especially the evening walk we seem to power up it - would never have believed it a month ago. we walk each morning, and it is so easy to get in a minimum of 4 miles, but often 6 or 7 - the beach beckons, and the loops are pleasant, and we just keep going. we've finally started running again, and hope we're back on an every other day schedule; the hills seemed easier, probably because of the walking we've done. we run and walk in intervals, and were passed by another runner during one of our walk intervals, who commented "you've got a really cute figure!" - who would have believed *that* was possible?!

we stay indoors working in the afternoons, then head out for another round for sunset - and before you know it, we've been hitting 10 and even 12 miles in a day. the border collie is happy.

afraid that ST is not really fitting in; it will probably be my guilty conscience for now. but nutrition is on track, even without tracking - salads are a natural.

milestones: in two weeks, i will hit 6 months of maintenance at this low end of my goal range, 8 months within range. it is now 10 months since i committed and got serious here on SP. and i'm doing my best to stay committed, stay on track - keep reading inspirational blogs and success stories - to stay a success story myself.

stats:
jan fitbit steps: 118,168

jan running: 18.7 miles (really really low... flu, travel, winter weather in early month)
jan walking: 192.2 (probably a record!)

total jan miles: 210.9 miles!

feb goals:
1. stay friends with the scale
2. healthy salads
3. keep on sparking
4. miles!!!

    Wow, that's a lot of miles! If you were on the Virtual Trek across America team, you would be almost across Virginia by now and I could have waved to you.

I'm jealous of your location of course since we're freezing our butts off here in VA.

    You are doing a great job of maintenance and exercising. Plus staying in the low end of your range is a good accomplishment. How nice that your husband loves to exercise with you. Enjoy those tropical beaches and hills.
