Hiking, biking, snow shoeing, canoeing and kayacking with John has helped to bring quietness to my soul in a measure that I have never experienced before. I feel most at peace when in my own back yard-Fox Forest State Park-as we wander the many trails.

In 2008, John earned the New England 4,000 Footer Patch for climbing all of the 63 mountains in New England that are at least 4.000 feet in elevation. I earned mine in 2012. Hiking has been a tradition in our family. I remember that through the 1960ís, the family vacations included hikes in the White and Green Mountains and that we camped in an AMC hut on top of a mountain. Our next goal is to finish hiking the 100 Highest Peaks in New England. We have about 20 more peaks to go!

I never realized peple bagged 4000-footers. In the land of 14kers, I forget other places can have their own elevation-based goals.

When the snow is gone, Fox Forest is where I go for most of my trail runs.
