You know, living in Europe you don't really have any dangerous wildlife around. No wildcats, no wolfs, no poisonous snakes, no poisonous spiders, no poisonous jellyfish only poisonous gossip I suppose... and idiot drivers on the road.

Australia on the other hand is a different story. Do you know that quote about Bear Gryll??? "He calls it Man vs Wild, in Australia we call it camping". Well, I'm not much of a camping girl but them snakes and spiders they are giving me the creeps. You hardly ever see them... unless I go roller balding that is. It's a nice bike path through the bush, the beach just 20m to your side. BEAUTIFUL.. except for the snakes. They like to sun bake themselves on the pavement. I had a handful of near-encounters which really boosts your adrenaline level!!!
I never saw one when biking that same path (maybe the bike makes more noise??)... that is, I have never seen one before today: under the wheels of my son's bike. It was only a young snake I think, either a brown snake or tiger snake and only about 1m long, yet it gave me the freaks... he on the other hand was totally excited and thought it splendid. I didn't stop to check if it was dead... hopefully you won't call in greenpeace, cause I didn't check if the snake was actually dead... I didn't think it wise to encounter a injured, nettled poisonous snake, especially in company of a slightly excited 4 year old.

Yeah, I think I'd try to not check on snakes too!

Little/young snakes become big/adult snakes so your son is my hero. I hate when I see a snake on the path. I'm usually too chicken to go around him so I turn around...he wins. Did you get the movie "Snakes on a Plane" in Australia? My former boss wrote the book that was adapted for that movie. As much as I loved my boss, I refused to go see the movie. Snakes....ick!

Yes I think I would have kept going too, even at that young an age a snake can kill.
Hope your 4 year old is learning not to touch snakes and spiders ...
just to dangerous ... hugs Susie emoticon

I would not stop either. You did the right the thing as these are dangerous creatures. I can understand about your son being excited as they do not know the danger.
