The Good and The Bad!!!!

Friday, February 01, 2013

This is one of those rare days that I decided to throw caution to the wind I guess. After going to the Doctor and being told I had dropped two more pounds in just two weeks, I went Grocery Shopping with my Husband. This was our "Stock-up" trip to Costco for two months, which is always hard anyway, even with a list and a plan. Being middle of the day of course, all the "Sampling Booths" were up, and though we were pretty selective with what and how much we tried, we still managed to take in plenty. I had preplanned to count up and track what I sampled and use it for my Lunch and snack since we were there for almost 3 hours trying to get all the things we needed and compare prices, nutrition on food products and just find all of our list of things to get. Then, because when we finished it was dinner time, my DH decided we needed to stop for dinner! I ended up giving in to a large piece of pizza that I swear had my name on it. When I got home, I decided if I really wanted to make headway with this change in my way of eating I had to record "everything" I had eaten, and so I did. Much to my surprise, though it was far from my healthiest day of eating, it was not over my daily Calories and in fact, I meet all my nutritional goals except protein, and was only slightly over for the first time in fat. So what did I get out of this? Well for one thing, I probably need to be sure I have eaten a good lunch before going to any store with samples, so I am less tempted to even try the samples. Also, even though I did try the samples, I tracked everything which definitely stopped me from trying more samples and less nutritious samples. Third, having the piece of pizza did satisfy a "craving" I have had lately, but I realized as I ate it, there was a lot more I could have eaten that would have tasted just as good, had better nutritional value and been less calories that were sort of "empty"! So my plan for tomorrow is a little more time exercising, eating more nutritious and better sources of protein and carbohydrates and less fat, and to continue to follow the road to my goals.

Good girl! Good for you for the 2# loss and good for you for eating a lot of empty calories, but still not going over. The most important is that you were honest and tracked everything. That is so important. If I didn't track, I'd be eating a lot of garbage that I shouldn't. Keep it up! Noel

I'd say in spite of eating pizza and all those samples you still managed to stay within your calorie range so overall did well as you could have ate 2 or 3 pieces but you didn't I'm really proud of your consistently eating right and losing another 2 lbs. proves you're eating healthy and moving more--good for You! Keep fighting the WL Battle and I see you at the Finish Line as I think you'll continue moving forward becoming a healthy and happy weight.

Hugs,

Jill emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW FEW PEOPLE ARE HONEST ENOUGH TO TRACK ALL THAT STUFF? YOU SHOULD BE VERY, VERY PROUD OF YOURSELF. AND SHOPPING FOR TWO MONTHS WOULD BE SO HARD FOR ME. I USUALLY STOCK UP ON STAPLES WHEN WE HIT SAM'S CLUB. BUT THE EXTRAS ARE SO TEMPTING!

Well I don't have to worry about Costco because we don't have one here where I live but do have BJ's and Sam's. Have a membership with Sam's but it takes about 20 minutes to get there. Walmart is closer. I have learned to make sure that I drink plenty of water before going there, it keeps me full.

Walk around Costco with a big bottle of water and just keep drinking. That will keep your hands and mouth occupied and fill your belly as well. emoticon

I feel so guilty about not buying what the Costco booths are selling that I never eat the samples. Sometimes guilt works to advantage.

I really appreciated your account of a challenging day. We can all learn from your experience in writing and accounting for what you consumed. Hope this stays in my mind for those days when I want to throw my habit to the wind and ditch that journal. Thanks for a timely piece.

Costco is always a challenge for me. I love the frozen yogurt. It has taken a long time to walk out of the store without getting one. The day you walk out without the samples and visiting the food court is a great day. Try it and once you feel empowered walking away, you will stop the samples.

Hmmm I think you put this on twice and I commented on the other blog. My mistake or maybe yours.

    Very good strategy.

I think you also learned that you have 'learned' a lot since starting on your journey. Just think of all you've accomplished since starting. And congratulate yourself for your self control and planning for your trip to the store. emoticon
