What's the excuse for not working out?

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Of course there may be excuses for not working out. Disability or even a temporary injury can give a legitimate one. Yet , sometimes we tell ourselves ," I've had a bad day" and give ourselves permission to not work out. That sounds like a good excuse. However, that little angel over our shoulder just may be whispering in our ear, "Having a bad day? ..... Well, some exercise can actually perk you up and your feelings of gloominess making you feel better." You think to yourself that this may be true but if I'm tense or stressed I might pull a muscle. Suddenly, that little angel is lurking on your shoulder gain and replies, "Stretching is just what you need for your tension. It will loosen up those tight muscles!"
Do you have that good little angel over your shoulder? Or has there been someone on the other side telling you there are too many things wrong with you to exercise. Start by wiggling your nose and applaud yourself for this baby step. If you did that, you can lift your arms up above your head. Can you reach back up? You are moving and exercising ! Now, give yourself a pat on the shoulder. Oh, you did that? Bravo! You are still exercising!

I do all kinds of leg exercises while laying in bed watch TV--circles, leg raise, side raise, inner thigh raise, scissors. Also raise my self up and down to tighten my abs. There are always opportunities for exercise, even if you are cooking and moving around the kitchen. My favorite exercise is good old walking.

I agree, but the best way to kick that "I don't feel like working out" attitude is to get moving, get going - you feel great once you do, some of my best workouts have been because "I didn't want to".

awesome and so true I like this quote goes something like this
stop finding excuses not to find reasons too.
An excuse is worse and more terrible than a lie; for an excuse is a lie guarded. Alexander Pope
and i just found this one that I like
thanks and have a great day.

There are a million reasons not to work out....but none of them are really any good.

Once we change our mindset from "I've got reasons NOT to work out" to "How can I find a way TO work out" magical things happen!
