good morning everybody! the weather has decided it would rather be winter than spring. its cold and snowy today. so glad i made it out yesterday morning to run. was a pretty soggy proposition. i was going to go to the park but it was UBER foggy, so i kept going until i got to the running track at the childrens park. it's near a busy highway and not so many open fields and wetlands around, so i figured the fog wouldn't be quite as bad. there was one HUGE puddle i had to figure a detour around, but all in all it was a good run--altho a bit chilly and wet. i was pleased to see another person using the track--there are some nice duplexes right beside the park and it really would be convenient for the residents to get their fitness time in. so i decided to download week 4 of the interval program--will start on it hopefully friday depending on the weather.
thought i would pass on some more things i am learning from this book i am reading "which comes first, cardio or weights". right now i am in the chapter about injury recovery. the most interesting thing i have learned is that strict rest is not the best way to treat an injury. if you begin using the injured area GENTLY very soon after the initial injury, your healing will be more rapid and the injured area will fix itself in a more sound way. also--ice is beneficial, but not really as helpful as has been thought--still it doesn't hurt to ice an injury. heat doesn't confer a whole lot of benefit either, other than relieving discomfort, but massage to the area, especially near the time of the injury does have a beneficial effect. not sure what the next chapter is--but a couple chapters ahead is the section on eating, exercise and weigh loss. i am looking forward to reading that. so the protocol for injury is--right after the injury RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation), but you should move fairly quickly to MICE (movement, ice, compression, elevation). obviously a grevious injury would require a visit to the dr. and/or therapist to determine how and when movement should begin.
off to breakfast with my GF today, then laundry and painting--have a great day!

You were so right about the rain! But I see blue sky up there this morning, and the temps are supposed to begin dropping. Saturday is Groundhog day...I wonder what the prediction is going to be??? Have a wonderful day!
