Catching Up

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Weighed in last Monday and gained .2 lbs-boo. We’d gone to dinner at Greg & Debbie’s on Saturday and I WAY overate so I know what happened.

I had gone for a ride on Saturday and another on Sunday but it wasn’t enough to offset what I ate on Saturday night. Lesson learned.

Saturday’s ride was great. The day was supposed to be sunny but it wasn’t. There were five of us who met near Priest Station Café (the café was closed and the parking lot chained off - !!). We rode down Priest-Coulterville Road into Coulterville where we stopped for a bathroom and ‘re-stocking of water’ break. Bill wanted to check out The Jeffrey so we let him. Then we started for Moccasin. As we got to the highest point on the road, we were in the fog and then the rain. Lucky for us neither lasted long so we didn’t get soaked. We stopped for another break in Moccasin before heading up Priest Grade back to where we began the ride. 2,890’ of climbing in 26 miles. Riders: Bill F, Karen C, Greg T, Gale S, me.

Sunday’s ride was great. (Aren’t they all?) It was a much gentler route as far as climbing but the roads were choppy so that wasn’t so gentle. We started in Copperopolis and rode out into the country. Passed by an old school house so stopped to get a few pictures and read the sign. It had been in the town of Felix, CA (never heard of that before). Later we passed a marker which told about Josephine (I can’t remember the last name) who had been a pioneer in the area and had a spread near Felix. 22 miles. Riders: Greg & Debbie T, Gale S, me.

A couple days later I went out and did sprints for 40 minutes on the taxiway. Good workout. Felt good to push for speed on a fairly level surface.

Today we had to go to Sonora as Dan had to report for jury duty. Turned out they didn’t need him (or anyone else) so he was dismissed. We did a couple errands while we were there so it all worked out.

Hi Bill - I think that's the less climbing direction. One of these days I'll go the other way with my buddy who has the altimeter and see.

That's a bunch of climbing for 26 miles.
