Tips that don't work for me - and what I do instead

Here are some diet/fitness tips that don't work for me, and what I do instead:

Tip: "Always shop on a full stomach."
Me: Are you insane? I hate shopping anyway. If I shop on a full stomach, I just grab the bare necessities, and then there's nothing in the pantry or fridge when I get hungry, so I head for the nearest fast food place.
The only way for me to have healthy food around is to go shopping when I am hungry, preferably with a list. And yes, I do like healthy food, so I don't buy junk food at the store.

Tip: "Make this yummy recipe using fruit and veggies!"
Me: Really? Why would I take perfectly good fruits and veggies and corrupt them with other ingredients? I even felt that way when I was a kid and my mom made strawberry or apple pie. I would have much rather just eaten the fruit. I prefer raw fruit and veggies over the processed variety; give me a bag of baby carrots, and I'll go at them like Bugs Bunny until they're gone. If they are cooked, I prefer my veggies steamed, in an omelette or a casserole, not turned into a pseudo-sweet substitute for junk food.

Tip: "Weigh in regularly and log it."
Me: Yes to part one, no to part two. My weight fluctuates; if I log the spikes, I'll give up. Instead, I play a game I call 'Beat the Lowest Score'; I only get to log it if the weight is lower than the last one I logged. It works, I'm very motivated.

Tip: "Tell people you know that you are going to lose weight."
Me: Again, are you crazy? I don't want a bunch of people giving me unwanted advice, ask how things are going, or make fun of me. I don't really keep secrets; I test my sugar in public and log my food, too, and if someone asks, I'll tell them, but I am also a very private person, and I keep big plans like that to myself. Besides, I don't like mixing work and personal life.
I very much prefer sharing my goals with a community that doesn't know me personally; that's why I love Spark People.

    I'm the same with items 1, 3, and 4. I wouldn't include pie in my fruit & veg count but it does taste nice!

  do what works for you. i have always eaten my largest meal at breakfast so i feel full all day. that really messes with the people who "know" whats best.
