So I have had a hard time the past few days. Today I had 3 friends give me the push that I needed.
First of all a really good friend of mine has decided that she would like to eat healthier so that she can feel better and have more energy. She doesn't have a large amount of weight to lose...probably only 20 pounds or so. She said that she knows that calorie counting is the best way to go.
She and I have a mutual friend- my best friend- who is really, really good at counting calories. He uses another site that he pays extra for. The site itself is free but there's more added to it with a membership. He recommended that site to her.
On top of that a friend of mine that I met right here on SP emailed me today. SHe and I have been corresponding through email for a couple of weeks now. She told me some of the things that she was going through but that she wasn't going to let her get it down. That was just an extra motivator to get back on track.
I have been having a really hard time keeping up on logging in and tracking calories. There's not a whole lot of accountability for me on sparkpeople. So, I joined this other site that my best friend is on (I can't ask him to quit that and come to SP since he payed the yearly membership fee). It works out well because now we are friends with each other and can see how many calories we have consumed. I have it set up so that he can see exactly what my last meal was. We can also see if the other has exercised. The site is not as comprehensive as SP when it comes to the data base of food, but what's the best data base out there if I'm not using it consistently.
So I still plan to use SP for the blogs, the information, and the videos. There may well be times I refer to the SP food tracker to check the accuracy of something.
I exercised today! I decided to hit up youtube this time and see what was offered in the aerobic department. There is a vast amount of channels to work out to! I only did 10 minutes of the one that I chose but then did 10 minutes of push ups, squats, lunges, leg lifts, and such. I was a bit tired when I was done!
So I didn't do great on calories as I was only guesstamating my meals today (I've done that for the past few days...not good). I went over by a considerable amount.
The new site I am using put me at 1590 calories per day as I am trying to lose 2 pounds per week at least for now. I've got quite a bit to lose and I feel that it would be wise to lose a decent amount quickly. 2 pounds per week is a reasonable amount and I know that I can do it if I set my mind to it.
Part of the reason I had a hard time doing the 10 minutes of exercise today is because of the pain that I have day in, day out. The pain is in my foot, ankle, and hip, and now in my hamstring. I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that weight and lack of muscle tone is the biggest contributor to this pain. I will say that the pain started out from injuries but I know that this weight is keeping my body from healing as quickly as it needs to.
I forgot that there was a fourth person who encouraged me today. That person was my husband. He has decided that as soon as we get our tax return we are getting a juicer and he is going on a 10 day juice fast! I of course told him that I would without a doubt join him on this. He is super excited about this! We have also talked about the possibility of getting the topsy turvy and planting some of our own produce.
While on the subject of fasting I did forget to mention that my best friend decided to start fasting for health reasons. He sent me a link to a site. When I looked at it I realized that it was the same webpage that I had looked at years ago with the intent to do the same. Now I know that there are people on here who do not believe that fasting is good for any length of time. To each their own. I've done my research and had already decided to work my way up to a full fledged 3 day detox fast. I started on Sunday with skipping breakfast and drinking only water. This up coming Sunday I will do a bit more. Then of course will come the 10 day juice fast which will start fairly soon.
My main goals are to detox and finally give up artificial sweetener. I've been trying super hard to give up artificial sweetener, but it has not been easy. I use granulated sugar in my coffee- usually just 1 tsp per 2 cups of coffee, and no sugar in my tea. My one weakness is the diet coke that my roommate drinks judiciously. Its always here. Always. The longest I've gone without it is 3 days.
I also crave sweets and junky food and apparently once you detox your body from all the chemicals those cravings go away. We shall see.
I am aware that in order for this to work 100% I should be eating all organic. Unfortunately that is absolutely impossible for me. Growing some of my own plants will help with that and I am going to try to use foods with the least chemicals and artificial ingredients as possible. This is not something I am doing overnight but a goal that I am working towards.
I am going to try and blog every Wed so see all you sparkies in a week! Wish me luck! ( A prayer would be nicer though
