this week has been like, twilight-zone weird. and it's only wednesday.
basically, what happened on monday after i found out i didn't get the job: drank a whole bottle of champagne in the middle of the day, ordered a bunch of sushi i didn't need (and can't afford), and basically felt like the world was ending. pity party. yes.
then i woke up yesterday morning to a text. from my former boss. here is where i have to explain what went down at that job. basically, i wasn't perfectly qualified for the job on paper, but the guy interviewing me (who turned out to be my boss) thought i would learn quickly and be good at it. and he was right. basically, i was doing shipping and logistics. so anyway, he hired me (and i was really surprised, because i left the interview feeling like i bombed it). this was in october. the job was in fashion, and while i didn't really feel like i belonged (everyone in the office was a size 2 and i'm an athletic 12...), people were generally nice, and i liked the work i was doing.
fast forward a month, and throw in half a week of missed work due to the hurricane and a week of 2-4 hour commutes (instead of 45 min) thanks to no trains running. and out of the blue, i got called into my boss' office, and he said he had to let me go. no real explanation except that it was a call by ownership (none of the 3 ever met me, btw), not him.
obviously, i was crushed. i mean, no, not my dream job... but the first legit great-paying job i've ever had. more than double what i was making at my previous job. and back to... nothing. i heard from another coworker a few days later that my boss was 'devastated' and everyone in the office was upset about it. but again, i've really never gotten a full explanation of what happened, so when i get asked about it in interviews, i just say that the position was eliminated (because i think it kind of was).
anywayyyyy. so i get this text out of the blue, and he wants to 'catch up business-wise'. so i told him i'm still looking for work, yadda yadda yadda. turns out he quit the job not long after he had to fire me, because that was kind of the last straw. pretty awesome, right? so he said to give him a few days, but i'm really hoping he can find a job for me. he has a new job, so hopefully he can pull some strings. it's just really weird, i've never dealt with someone so loyal before.
so now i have to try to be patient for a few days (and i am not a patient person). hopefully something works out with this. if not, i have an interview at a marketing firm next week as backup. i'm desperate to the point where i've started applying for waitressing jobs, so hopefully something comes through :)
