I, and even my boyfriend and fulltime stepdaughter, are on a one week fruit and veggie cleanse. I was vehemently against this idea because it sounds like a diet to me. Then I thought about it. Whatever I am eating is my diet, right? Sooo... technically I've been on the McDonaldspizzabeerchickenwing diet for the last few weeks. And sometimes you have to shake things up.
So I discussed it with my family and we are eating very clean this week. 3 fruits a day, all the veggies we want, spices, mustard, water and noncaffeinated teas. If we suffer any headaches or need to get physical, we'll add some lean, clean protein.
It is hard to find recipes that just have vegetables in them and I have had to be creative. I've made two different veggie soups, one with Asian veggies, ginger and a bit of low sodium soy sauce and one with Italian veggies, canned fire roasted tomatoes and Italian spices. Last night I made a Mediterranean veggie casserole and tonight I plan on Mexican zucchini. Yes I know that is zucchini mixed with salsa and that I am stuffing veggies with other veggies. LOL. I dug out the food dehydrator and tried making kale chips in it.... Uhm... without that little bit of olive oil on them... they are not so tasty, the zucchini chips were a bit better and the bunny really liked the carrot chips... he was the only one. I've made homemade applesauce and plan on grilling peaches with cinnamon and vanilla. And my boyfriend's super sister, has given us a variety of teas to try from Tealightful www.tealightfultreasures
. I love the Orange Chocolate Rooibos-- it really helps assuage my chocolate cravings.
Next week we will get back to a nice, steady, healthy eating plan. Still lots of fresh fruits and veggies, but we'll add back in the other food groups in low glycemic forms. I already have lots of recipes to try! Veggies will taste much better with a little bit of healthy fat and I can't wait to have some Greek yogurt with my berries. Not to mention a nice piece of meat with my dinner...
If nothing else this is proving to me that, "It's just food." I control what I eat, not the other way around. Any weight loss will be a nice side effect.
